薬物の官能的評価という患者自身の主観的評価を汲み上げ、治療の土俵にのせるというチャレンジングな試みを行いながら、それを治療上有益なデータベースにまで仕上げているという点において、画期的な著作であろう。
メールマガジンで熊木氏が官能的評価を謳いだしたころから、その行方に注目してきた。このように有言実行することはたやすいことではない。
また、精神科病院に通う私などにとっても、直接的に非常に役立つ内容であることも付記しておきたい。

「官能的評価」という形で薬の「のみごごち」に着目した、医療関係者にとっても、患者さんにとっても強いインパクトを与える本であると思う。熊木先生は新たなフロンティアを開かれた。精神医療関係者がこの本に続く試みをなされることを期待したい。
惜しむらくは、インターネットを中心として患者さんの声を拾った事によって、患者さんの状態の把握が甘くなっている点である。「のみごこち」は患者さんと薬の相互作用の中で生まれるものであろう。その意味では自験例を中心に執筆されるのがよかったのでは、とも思われる。もっとも、そのような保守的な考えではフロンティアを開くことはできないだろうし、悩ましいところではある。

こういうことを本にしていいのか。と、いうのが第一印象だった。このような会話はかつてはどこの大学の医局でもあるいは精神病院の医局でも医師の間での「うちわ話」として語られていたものだ。それを我々は「耳学問」として聴いて、ふーん、と思いながら試行錯誤しながら恐る恐る投薬しながらクスリの使い方を学んでいった。これを本にしなくてはならない時代って一体？というのが率直な感想である。もしかすると医局というのが機能しなくなったのかもしれない。先輩後輩のtipsの伝達というのがなくなってきたのかもしれないというのが悲しい。
