この本で語られる先端科学は多くは脳・神経についての研究者との対談です。最近は文系の研究者も脳の研究をしています。脳の研究のアプローチの広さに驚くと思います。

養老先生は解剖学が専門なので、脳についての研究も、ネアンデタール人の謎も、先端研究者との対談は多彩です。おもしろいです。

高校生が今大学を選ぶ基準はどのへんにあるのか、やっぱり偏差値なのかわかりませんが、大学は、どのような研究機関と共同で、どのような研究を行っているのか、きちんと外に発信されなければならないと思います。
研究者はもっと自分が追い求めている研究を広く示さねばならないと思います。

偏差値が自分に合っていて入った大学で、面白い学問に出会わず卒業する学生は、たぶんたくさんいるでしょう!。
求めること、出会うこと。そして志すこと。この三つが最先端研究をさらに前進させる若い力を得る方法の一つだと思います。いろいろな人がいろいろなことを考え、発見し、やがて学問の壁は崩れていくのだと思います。

だから、この本は高校生に読んでもらいたい。

少年少女よ、大志を抱け！

人類の祖先についてという話題から始まって、脳・心理について様々な話題が取り上げられています。
著者と、各分野の第一線の研究者との対談集です。

特徴としては、
・最近、話題となることが多い題材が多く取り上げられていて興味深く読めると思います。「こういう見方で研究を進めているんだ」と研究の世界を垣間見た気分にもなれます。
・また、最近の知見をいろいろと盛り込みながらも少ないページ数に収めているため読みやすいです。
・それから、対談の中での著者と各研究者の論理の展開が興味深く（ぼんやり字面だけ追っていると置いていかれそうになる）、頭のトレーニングにもなると思います。

個々の対談も興味深く、全体としても、それなりに体系的なものとなっていると思います。
全体を通して、密度の高い対談集といえるのではないでしょうか。
