「ワタシの前世はナポレオンだった」「アナタの前世は豊臣秀吉です」
そんな下らない前世遊びとは無関係である。
“生まれ変わり”の存在を科学的・論理的に追求し、ひたすらに現実を
見つめ続けるイアン・スティーヴンソン達研究グループ。
彼らが、長年の研究により構築・洗練されたメソッドを用い集め続けたデータを
細心の配慮を持って提示、検証する。

事実、そこから導き出された可能性は明確に何かを物語る。

エンターテイメントとして書かれている物ではないため
よほど興味がない限り読むのに苦痛を覚えるかもしれないが
生まれ変わりに興味を持ち、いくつかの本を読み
さらに深く真実に近づきたいと思った人間には最適の一冊。

　主観や思い込みに流されず、根気良く調べられたスティーヴンソン博士の調査方法は、本当に素晴らしいと思いました。
　これはほとんど学術書です。 そして 読むのがとってもしんどい本です。
　事実を事実として 淡々と発表されていますので、（本人の主観はともかく） 「だからこうだ」 という結論は掲げておられないようです。
　前世についてですから、頭から 「こういうのはウソだ」 と決めつけたがる人は、こういった様々な証拠を示されたところで “先ず否定ありき” の思考にしがみつき、「そんなわけがない」 「たまたまだ」 と 何が何でも否定材料を積み上げるものかも知れませんね。
　それに実際、その全てにおいて 信憑性の高い事例ばかりとは限らなかったようですし。
　でも私は、大人たちの様に 社会の既成概念に洗脳されていない “幼い子供の感覚” とは（かつての我々がそうであった様に）、大人の言葉では到底説明しきれない、多次元性と無限に包まれた壮大な世界に近いものだと思えるのです。
　我々大人は、知らないことを知っていることだけで片付けたがる ただの保身者なのかも知れません。
　パート２のヨーロッパ版（570P）や、スティーヴンソン博士の後継者である タッカー博士による研究本（310P）も出ていますので、体力を温存して再びチャレンジしたいですね。

どうしても現代の科学と調和させることはできないようですが、筆者は生まれ変わりについて盲信することなく、「証拠」と思われる事例を集め、慎重に論理的に生まれ変わり信仰とそれにまつわる現象について学問的で詳細な分析を行っています。一つひとつの文章が長めなので日本語としては読みにくく、翻訳でもっと気を使って欲しかったです。

著者は過去生リーディングや、催眠による記憶の想起については批判的ですが、前世を記憶するという子どものおかしな行動、嗜癖、夢、予言、母斑などについて事実を元に推測を行っています。その推測も控えめでほとんど「証拠に語らせて」います。

本書は大衆向けオカルトとは一線を画しております。輪廻転生（生まれ変わり）について深い関心があり、研究者向けの本を読んでみたい方にはお勧めです。
