1906年にニューヨーク市で生まれた。Art Student’s LeagueおよびNational Academy of Designで学んだ後に、ニューヨーク大学で医学部に進み、1931年にM.D.(医学博士)の学位を受けている。1933年に外科医。1991年に生涯を閉じた

相磯 貞和
1976年慶應義塾大学医学部卒業。1980年慶應義塾大学大学院医学研究科博士課程修了。1980年慶應義塾大学助手(医学部内科学)。1986年慶應義塾大学専任講師(医学部解剖学)。1988年Stanford大学医学部Department of Microbiology & Immunology Post‐doctoral Fellow。1992年慶應義塾大学教授(医学部解剖学)。研究分野:解剖学、発生学、消化器病学(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

解剖学はとりあえず"どこに何があるか"をまず知らなければ話にならない。
解剖実習をしても、いつでもご遺体を拝見できるわけではなく参考となるアトラスが必要となる。数あるアトラスの中でもネッター以上に分かりやすいものはないであろう。
各臓器を色分けする、動脈を赤、静脈を青、リンパ管は黄色、など実際の実習では区別付かないものをわかり易く視覚で教えてくれる。
私はこの本を手にし医学の勉強をしているときに医学生になったと実感した。自分の勉強する本が並んでいる本棚には是非おいておきたい本である。

解剖学では、視覚的に捉えながら、解剖学書を読むことが解剖学のもっともよい勉強法である。しかし、解剖学書にある図では、十分でないことが多い。そのような時、”ネッター”は最良の参考書である。
アトラスで重視するべき点は、正確であること、見やすいこと、一つの場所がいくつもの方向から見て描かれてることである。
”ネッター”は、以上の点をクリアした上で、「何を描いて、何を描かないか」の選択が秀逸である。必要なことが、必要なだけ描いてある、初学者にはかならずオススメできる一冊である。

この本は正確なカラーの図が載っているため、正確な解剖のイメージをつかむにはいいだろう。なので、図が見たい場合はこれを使うといいと思う。

しかしながら「図しか載ってない」のでこの一冊では不足すると思う。文が掲載されている清書をもう一冊持っていれば強力な武器としてこの本は役割を発揮するだろう。
