基本的に医療従事者向け（勉強用？）のマニュアルでしょう。ですが、白血病患者である私は、白血病なるものがどんな病気でどんな治療を行われるのか知るために非常に役にたった本であった。この本にあげられる治療方法が全てではないと思うが（白血病の治療はたった１年で飛躍的に治療が改善される場合があり、５年も経つと情報が古いと感じられる場合がある）基本的な病状や処置や治療は変わらないため、主治医や研修医に教えてもらいながら自分の病気の治療が間違っていないことや、いろんな病状や治療に対する知識から不安を解消できたところがあった。（白血病の治療は強力な治療のため、ひとつ間違えると死に至る劇薬を使用する。そのため、知らないことが不安とストレスを生む場合がある）

マニュアルであるため、実際の治療はこれと異なる場合もあるが、それは説明してもらえばよい話であり、昨今問題になっている「医療事故」から身を守るためにもベッドサイドに置いて、都度確認できれば良いかと思われる。（抗がん剤の投与量を間違えて投与し続けるといった医療事故もあったことから考えると、このマニュアルを参考に自分で計算できたのもよかった）

全てを理解できなくても、入院患者が生きるためにできることは非常に少ないため、最小限必要な知識を得て理解を深めておくのは、主治医の治療を信頼する上でも役に立つはずである。高度な治療を行い、日々変わる様態をチェックしてその対処療法を行うことは非常に困難であることも理解すると、（長期入院患者にストレスは付き物ではあるものの）主治医や医療従事関係者に深く感謝できる。
ただし、難しい専門用語が多いのと、高価であるため★４つとしておく。
