　休暇を利用し、妻の実家にやってきた警視庁捜査一課の中村刑事が連続殺人に巻き込まれ、所轄でもないのに独自に捜査を行う、というストーリー。　
　トラベルミステリ、見立て殺人、密室だけでなく、そこに旧日本軍の中国での悪行、冤罪についての考察など、本格ミステリと社会派ミステリが融合されている。「奇想、天を動かす」を思い出してしまった。
　こんなアクロバットトリックありか？と、つっこみたくなる部分もあるが、それはそれ、この作者だもん、これぐらいやらなきゃね。
　事件解決後、犯人や関係者の手記が紹介される、というのはいつものパターンだけど、ここまでリアルに（残虐に）書いてあると、靖国参拝で中国、韓国からあれだけ抗議が出るのも判るような気がする。
　ワトソン役の海老原も素人探偵として、いいキャラだし。ラスト近くで吉敷登場するのはファンサービスか。

島田さんの作品はよく読ませていただいておりまして、共著ということで楽しみでした。
いざ読み進めていきまして、島田作品と何の違和感も無く入りこめた感じでした。
最近の傾向にあるのか、トリックが非常に複雑なストーリーが大変多く感じられる中、小島さんの作品は
お世辞にも繊細とは言えない気骨のあるトリックに仕上がっており、私なりには大変楽しめました。
今度は小島作品の十三回忌を読もうと思っており、期待しております。

　島田氏と島田氏に師事する小島正樹氏の共著ということで、島田作品を愛する私としては少々不安を持って読み始めたのでした。
　でも、読み進める内に島田作品と何の違和感も無くなっていました。探偵役が「死者の飲む水」の中村刑事と言う所も渋いじゃないですか。
　解説など無いので、どのように共著なのかは判りませんが、それを推理するのも楽しいかも知れません。私的には、基本構造は小島氏なのかなぁ？と思っていますけれど。
　
　共著という事で、議論を重ねた結果でしょうか、より緻密に出来上がっているように思えます。
　トリックは切れ味鋭いカミソリのようなものでは無く、斧で力ずくといった感じのもので、これも島田氏の特徴そのものです！

　ミステリーは、読者を騙すことに主眼があるのではなく、読者を感動させ、楽しませる事にあるのだと、根底がはっきり感じられる作品です。

　蛇足かもしれませんが・・・
　本格ミステリーのトリックは一流の作者といえども、そうそう考え付くものではないようで、個人的には島田氏の最高トリックはデビュー作の「占星術殺人事件」だと思っています。しかしながら、熟練する程に磨かれる筆力もあるのでしょう。個人的に一番感動したのは「涙流れるままに」です。新進のアイデアと熟練の技、こんな作品良い形の見本になるかも知れません。
