本書は大学院に入学して今から修士論文や博士論文に取り掛かろうとしている院生に向けてかかれたものです。技術的なことよりも、研究がどのようなプロセスを経てなされるのか、そしてその戦略・戦術をどのようにして練るべきなのかといったことが書かれています。また、経験的証拠の取り扱い方の章もあります。その章では、なぜ経験的証拠を集めなければならないのかという問いや、証拠を集めるための様々な方法のそれぞれの特徴について言及しています。また、具体的な研究方法として、質問表の具体的な作成方法やケース･スタディの特徴（プロセス・ケーススタディの種類・証拠の収集のやり方）についても述べられています。巻末には、さらに学びたい人のための書籍リストや索引も充実しており、研究を今から始めるという人にとってはわかりやすい入門書だと思います。
星を4つにした理由は、もう少し論文作成にいかすことのできる項目（例：引用の仕方）について言及してあってもいいのではないかと思ったためです。

本書は、論文を書くまえ、もっといえば、テーマを決める前で論文を書こうと決めた直後くらいに読むのが良いと思う。論文が他の文章、例えばエッセイなどと大きく違うのは、「これまでの当該領域の知の体系には存在しなかった新しい知見」と、「それを導きだした、あるいは発見できたプロセスあるいは手法」の二つが銘記されていることだろう。更にいえば、上記の新しい知見が、既存の古い知見に対して順接なのか、逆説なのかを、既存の知見を示しつつ明示することも必要である。そしてこの際、引用の作法にも気をつけなくてはならない。

と、色々なことを気付くにはよい本。

研究の進め方や方法に関する本はたくさん出ていますが、簡単に読めて
論文作成までの全体の流れがわかる本は少ないと思います。短時間で
読める分量と内容ですし。

テーマを決めるためのヒントがほしいという方、調査方法をどうしようか
悩んでいる方には少し物足りないかもしれません。そういう人のために、
「さらに学びたいための人の書籍紹介」もありがたいです。

値段も同類の本に比べればやすいですし、これから論文を書こうとする人も
書き始めている人も一読の価値ありです。
