この絵本、表紙だけ見ると、ただの子供向けの電車の絵本かと思いますが、実は大人向けだと思います。最初は50~60年代頃の駅に電車が停まっています。田舎を通り、山を抜け、駅に着くと乗客が皆動物に変身しています。その次は、トンネルを抜け、血の川をまたぐ鉄橋を渡り、黄泉の国を通り抜け、到着駅で降りる乗客は皆、妖怪に変身しているのです。電車が空を飛んだり、海の中を泳いだりする絵本は他にもありますが、この本は何が凄いかというと、どの人物が何に変身したかがよく見ると分かるようになっているところ。細部まで見出すと飽きないです。さらに電車は時代をさかのぼり、安藤広重の風景画のような世界（絵の完成度はほど遠いのですが）を通り抜け、果ては竜宮城まで、と、何とも不思議で奇怪な絵本です。文章は「おきゃくがのります」「ぞろぞろ　ぞろぞろ」「がたごと　がたごと」「おきゃくがおります」「ぞろぞろ　ぞろぞろ」それだけです。だからと言って、幼児に与えるだけでは、とてももったいない本です。子供よりも、私が気に入っています。

電車好きの息子の一番好きな絵本です。
『がたごとがたごと』や『ぞろぞろぞろぞろ』など繰り返しの簡単な文なので分かりやすいし、絵も独創的でとっても魅力的な絵本だと思います。
大人の私でも引き込まれてしまう世界があります。

乗る前と降りた時に乗客が変身する不思議な電車。「おきゃくがおりまーす。　ぞろぞろぞろ」で２才の息子は毎度ニッコリと「あれ〜！？あれれれれ〜」とあいの手を入れてくれます。

大人でもジックリ見比べてついつい違いを探してしまう乗客ひとりひとりの変化。小さな息子にはそこまでわからないけれど、子供なりに「しゃぼんだまフーしてるぅ」とか「ヨーヨーだ！」と、自分のお気に入りおもちゃを発見！降りるページで「ここにもしゃぼんだましてる子がいるよー。探してみて」とヒントをあげたら駅に到着ごとに「あれれ？」と言うようになりました。

買った時はオバケが出てくるトコが恐いかな？と思いましたが、なんとなく愛嬌のある表情のオバケは意外にもお気に入りに。。。ベロベロ〜と言いながら舌だして見てる息子の姿が笑えます。一番好きなページかも？！独特な雰囲気の絵と楽しいしかけは大人にとっても魅力的です。このでんしゃに自分が乗ったら一体どんな姿で降りるのかな？想像力が広がります。
