プロの麻雀打ちとして２０年間無敗を通した桜井章一さんを、かの有名な中谷彰宏さんがインタビュー形式で紹介する。

厳しい博打の世界で引退まで無敗を誇るには、技術や運もさることながら、超人的な精神を持たなければ達成できない。実際、有名な政治家、一流のスポーツ選手、空手の世界チャンピオンなどが桜井さんの教えを乞いに、たくさん訪れるらしい。そんな桜井さんの言葉は現世の価値観に囚われず、驚くほど純粋で道徳的だ。勝ち負けよりプロセスが大事、競争心を持たない方が良い、合理的な事が正しいとは限らない等、普段我々が無意識で感じている価値観を良い意味で壊してくれる。また今の風潮に反する言葉も、成し遂げた偉業と言葉に表れる器の大きさに納得させられてしまう。今度は桜井さんが書いた別の本も読んでみたい。

麻雀界で尊敬を集めている桜井氏が「考えるとはずれる.感じるとあたる.」
と言っている.本当かなあと思った私ですが,雀鬼会の4人がテレビで麻雀を
打っているのを見た事があるのを思い出しました.普通の10倍ぐらいの速さ
で打ってました.おそらく一つ一つの手は理屈で考えているでしょう.
でもあの速さですと,感じるまま,という感覚なのでしょう。

あと印象深かったのは,「俺は何するにも屁のカッパなんです。」という言葉です。強い人というのは,落ち込んで乱している時間が人よりも少ない人
気持ちの整理する力が凄い人なのかな,と思いました.
もうちょっと自分の道を究めてから,読み返したい一冊です.

桜井章一氏と中谷彰宏氏の対談です。人物の魅力を引き出すことに関してはスペシャリストの中谷さんならではの本書。なぜ桜井氏は強いのか。数々の理由を羅列しています。おもしろいよん。
