新井 素子
1960年東京生まれ。立教大学文学部卒。77年、高校2年生のとき第1回奇想天外SF新人賞に「あたしの中の…」が佳作入選しデビュー。大学在学中に発表した「グリーン・レクイエム」「ネプチューン」は第12回、第13回星雲賞を受賞。99年には『チグリスとユーフラテス』で第20回日本SF大賞を受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

子供の頃にわくわくしながら読んだのをよく覚えている。当時も何度も読んだ。
大人になってからでも読み返してみたくなり、十分に楽しめる一冊。
引っ越しの際になくしたので改訂版を再購入してまで読んだ。

文章を読んでいるだけなのに、風景をリアルに感じる。
特に「色」と「風」、そして「音」。
ストーリーに幼稚さを感じるという人もいるが、
理屈抜きでどっぷり楽しめばお得な一冊だと確信する。

グリーンレクイエムを読んだのは中学１年の時でした。
主人公がヒロインと喫茶店でショパンの話をする場面が、とても大人っぽく思えてどきどきした覚えがあります。
しかし何故か当時の私の中でのＢＧＭは、ショパンではなくオフコースのワインの匂いでした。

静かにピアニシモで始まるお話の導入部の雰囲気が非常に好きです。

　「グリーン・レクイエム」は短いながらも彼女の全作品中のベストの一つに入る大傑作。
　そして、その「グリーン・レクイエム」の直後の世界、前作の登場人物達のその後と「世界樹」と呼ばれる古い刻を経ていきる植物の主たちを交えての後日談を描いた傑作の「緑幻想」
　どちらもせつなくて甘く、そしてSFマインドにも満ちている、新井素子らしい物語で、この二つの合本・復刻は素晴らしいです。難しい言葉や、いたずらに血なまぐさいシーンも出てこないこの作品は中学生くらいからなら誰でも読めるし勧められる傑作です。
　是非是非これを機会に手に取って下さい。
　文句無しに５の５です。
