　昨年ＯＶＡシリーズが某社で全話放送され、
小説も新たに出版し漫画も復刻、新連載スタート…
とにわかに第二次ブームか？と思われる銀河英雄伝説の３巻です。
（サントラまで出るし）

　３０にしてＯＶＡを見てなんてまぁすごい話なんだと感心し、
１０代でこれに出会っていたらと恐ろしいやら残念やら…複雑な気持ちです。
　ＯＶＡでの台詞がなかなか良いのでやっぱり活字で読みたいと思った矢先の再販、偶数月が待ち遠しいです。

　なにより活字で読みたかったシーンのひとつ「査問会」がこの３巻に収録。
名言？の多い銀英伝の中でもこの部分はうなってしまうところです。

　「市民が納める税金を、公正かつ効率よく再分配するという任務を託されて、
　給料をもらってそれに従事しているだけの存在だ」

　と自覚のある政治家はこの国にいるようにはとても思えない昨今ですが、
銀英伝を読んでいると選挙へ行かねばと思う今日この頃であります。

劇的な勝利と引き替えに、唯一無二の腹心にして、自分の半身とも言える友人、キルヒアイスを失ってしまったラインハルト。
反乱を抑えてみせたにもかかわらず、味方の首脳部をして、賞賛以上の危惧を抱かれてしまったヤン・ウェンリー。

ヤンの被保護者――もうじき１６歳をむかえるユリアン少年の初陣からはじまる第三巻は、“雌伏編”と名のつくとおり、双方の内乱鎮定後、新しい対決にむかうまでの橋渡し的な内容になっています。
そのため、前巻までの怒涛のような時間の流れは止まったように感じられますが、まさに嵐の前の静けさといったところか、さまざまなところに散りばめられた伏線が、次巻以降にどう反映してくるのかが楽しみでなりません。
“要塞ｖｓ要塞”。のちの歴史において、戦略的にはなんの意味も持たなかったといわれる攻防戦の影にいた、第三勢力“フェザーン”。そのさらに裏にいる“地球教”。また、いまだにその目的の判然としない同盟元首、トリューニヒトの真の思惑とはなんなのか……。

続きの待ち遠しさでいえば、この第三巻が一番かもしれません。

本巻は要塞対要塞という派手なハードウェア対決が見ものです。
もともとSF色が薄い作品でしたが、SFっぽい設定やテクノロジーが出てくるのは、これが最後です。しかし、SFしか読まないという人はともかく、この巻まで読み進めた人には、そんなことはまったく気にならないでしょう。
美化された主人公たちの姿に違和感を感じるときもありますが、十分に面白く読めると思います。
