　“巨人”シリーズ第三作。 最初は小さなウソだったのが段々大きく成長し、最後は本人にも手がつけられないほど“デッカイ”話になってしまう…。　周囲はそれに気付いていながらも、おもしろがって誰も止めなかった…そんな作品。

　夢の科学力を保持する「巨人たちの星」の隠された真実を、例の２人組が解明し“悪用”する痛快ＳＦミステリ。　優しい巨人たちの2500万年ぶりの帰郷には何気に感動してしまった。

本作は前二作と比べ、ＳＦとしてはハードですが、同時にエンターテイメント性
に富んでいます。
ハントやダンチェッカーはもとより、コールドウェルなどの人間たちが大活躍。
素直なガニメアンたちが狡猾な人間たちに感化されていくのはちょっと哀しい
ですが、そんな人間たちの影響力もひとつの見所です。
また、池央耿氏の卓越した日本語訳が一層作品の質を高めています。正に
プロの仕事ですね。ぜひ一作目から順に読んで下さい。

優しい巨人と出会い、あっと驚く壮大な歴史を辿ったのが前二作でした。
ガニメデの優しい巨人は余韻を残すラストでしたが、いよいよ本拠が登場したかと興奮しましたね。
優しい巨人の技術をも凌ぐ2500万年もの進化を経た科学世界が登場するのかとワクワクして3作目も読みました。
主人公が物理学者ということもあり、究極に達した科学が描く宇宙の真理とは、そこまでたどり着いた文明の姿はいかなるものか・・・
こんなストーリーだと妄想してたんですが、
感想は他の皆さんも触れられている通り、政治の話題が多くなってました。今回は前二作とは違いリアルタイムで現物が存在してしまってるので、わずかなヒントを手掛かりに謎を解明していく緊張感がなくなった気がします。もうちょっと壮大な科学的な話になると思ってたんですが政治的な陰謀とかの説明が多く雰囲気が違うなーと思ってました。
ミネルヴァと地球の違い、なぜ地球では科学より先に占いや神話が発達したのか、そういうことも解明するんですが、個人的には理由が単純かつ唐突でただの陰謀論じゃないかとも。
しかしラストは三部作の完結としては感動しましたね。
謎の中継機やミネルヴァの起源などそう来るとは思いませんでした。星を継ぐものは、いずれ星間共同体の時代がやってくると書いてあります。未来への希望に溢れているこの一節は、私自身にも夢を与えました。
（この本が発売してから10年以上たって、現在4作目の内なる宇宙　上・下が発売されました。これは昔にはなかったので三部作・本巻で完結と思われていたことによるものです）
