5.0 out of 5 stars ブラッドベリ最高の短編集, 2001/11/12
ブラッドベリの代表作としては「火星年代記」や「刺青の男」を挙げる人が多いが、私にとってブラッドベリの最高傑作はこの本。彼のセンチメンタルな部分とグロテスクな部分が同居する卓越した感性が、ぎっしり詰まっている。２０世紀アメリカ幻想文学が生んだ最高の短編集といってよい。「みずうみ」「熱気のうちで」「２階の下宿人」「こびと」などなど、どれもこれも素晴らしすぎる。ブラッドベリはやはり、この本に代表される初期の作品が一番いいと思います。

僕の手元にある文庫は、1965年12月24日のクリスマス・イブに発行された初版である。以来、約40年間の星霜。何度も読み返してきた。不思議に飽きることはなかった。なぜなのだろうか。「波がぼくを、この世から、空飛ぶ鳥から、砂浜に遊ぶ子供たちから、岸辺に立つぼくの母から切りはなした。やがてまた、波はぼくをかえしてよこした。」『みずうみ』より。なんと多くの、少年と少女たちが、この十月の国を訪問し、何かを見てしまい、立ち去り、時を経てから、その恐怖を書いてきたことだろう。これは、作家を生み出す文庫なのだ。

　不思議であやうい雰囲気をただよわせた短編一つ一つにどっしりとした現実味がある。これは私達からかけ離れた世界ではなくとても身近な世界だ。ＳＦという手法をとっているけれども、もしかしたらこれは人間の深層心理そのものかもしれない。人間の恐怖、残酷さ、慢心、せつなさ、好奇心、やさしさが美しい描写の中で際立っている。誰もが感じうることを作者が代弁してくれているようだ。
　短編だから読みやすい。ＳＦが苦手をいう人にもぜひ読んでもらいたい本。

最高と思います。読んでいると、自分自身が夢の中を漂っているような感覚です。
特にお薦めは、骨・小さな殺人者・群集・二階の下宿人　でしょうか。
