ホラーの第三黄金時代を築くという壮大な目的をもったアンソロジー第3巻。ミステリぽい作品あり、ファンタジーぽい作品ありと、シリーズの中では幅が広い。

面白いのは（というより、これしかない）、ジョー・Ｒ・ランズデール「狂犬の夏」。ウィリアム・ピーター・ブラッティ「別天地館」は１８０頁ほどの中篇だが、期待はずれ。

■「狂犬の夏」
１９３１年　テキサスの夏。１３歳のバリーは、妹のトムと、森の中で黒人女性の殺害された死体を発見する。バリーが伝説の山羊男のしわざと考えたこの事件は、連続殺人事件に発展していく。　・・・キング「スタンバイ・ミー」、マキャモン「少年時代」を彷彿させる。この作品だけは読む価値あり。

5.0 out of 5 stars ホラー+ミステリー, 2009/10/20
今回のアンソロジーは長編が中心。
6作入っていて結構謎解きを求める
作品も多いです。


表題作は謎の山羊男は何者かを
推理しながら進んでいきますが
いかんせん他の作品よりも暴力表現や
差別表現がひどいものがあるので
お世辞にも文章表現のレベルが高いとは
いえません。


ただ、最後の思わぬ結末には
驚きを隠せないはずです。
まさかを突かれるので。


一番の良作は｢別天地館｣でしょう。
これはすごいなと感じました。
まず、ラスト前に
物語の概念が一気に変わりますので。
読者はしてやられたと感じてしまうでしょう。


長編が面白い本でした。
