待望のヴァルデマール年代記の続編！というか、こっちがやっと本編になるのですねー。
好きなお話なのでおやすみ前のじっくり継読のつもりで読み始めたら、これまで以上にスケールが大きくなってて、途中で本を置けないほど面白かった！結局半徹で一気読みに（笑）。こんなのは久々です。

これまでの物語自体と設定全部を伏線として使いながら、全く違う年代の話。でも「もとめ」という名前の剣の存在があるせいか、時代ごとの断絶を感じないです。
主人公は前作「運命の剣」で最後の方に登場したヴァルデマール国王女エルスペス。なかなか複雑な立場のせいか、いわゆる「お姫さま」じゃないところがラッキーっぽい。他にも魅力的な設定のキャラクターがこれでもかと出てくるのに、ちゃんとそれぞれ満遍なく背景が描かれるので、全員がキャラ立ちして混乱せずに済むってのは凄いぞ。
中でも、途中から出てくる猫娘（？）「変化の子」ナイアラには私のツボ全てを鷲掴みにされてしまって、メロりんキュになっちゃいました（笑）
これまでの作品の中でも一番セクシャルな傾向があるのが新鮮。そういったロマンスやセクシャルな部分と戦闘シーンとのメリハリが効いてて、王道的ファンタジーっぽさもしっかり生きとりますな！
このナイアラは次作の主役になりそう…先が楽しみ♪

そして新たな展開。「もとめ」の過去が初めて明らかに…って、「もとめ」は剣なんですけどね…この剣がなくちゃそもそもシリーズが進まなかったわけで、「もとめ」が出来ることになった意外な過去が浮かんで来る。それが読み手である私が過去に読んだ話の中のエピソードを思い出させてくれたりもする。うーん、上手いぞ、ラッキー女史。
タルマ＆ケスリーから始まる「もとめ」シリーズの集大成ともいえるのではないかと。

個人的な意見としては、この連作、指輪物語の面白さに匹敵する気がする。

新訳 女王の矢―ヴァルデマールの使者 (C・NOVELSファンタジア)で活躍したタリアにしつけなおされていたあの、セレネイの娘、エルスペスが大活躍します。
セレネイ＋タリアの時代から、エルスペスに時代は移っていっています。

エルスペスは自分のすべての可能性を使って、何百年ぶりの魔法を使う「使者」になれるのでしょうか。「女神の誓い」「裁きの門」を読んだ人ならおなじみの剣、「求め」も登場します。

正統派ファンタジー。剣と魔法とそして不思議なことが好きなら大好きになれる1冊です。
