4.0 out of 5 stars 二度と帰らない「ひと夏」への推理行, 2003/11/24
いわゆる「バカミス」系の新本格華やかなりし時代に発行された、オーソドックスな本格ミステリ。過去に起こった「かもしれない」殺人事件の謎を追って、大学生と高校生の姉弟が時を遡行する“回想の殺人”モノです。

地味な印象があったため、最近まで手を付けずにいましたが（実際たしかに地味ではあるのですが）、読み終えてみると、これは想像以上に良質なミステリでした。帯に「青春ミステリ」と銘打たれているように、活発な姉・祥子と内省的で読書好きな弟・敬太郎のやりとりが初々しく、テレビドラマにしてもいけそうな感じです。ただしトリック的に映像化は難しいでしょう）。本格的としてもしっかり伏線が張られており、着地もきれいに決まっています。犯行の動機は「？」ですが、おそらく作者としては確信犯的な試みかと。
読了後は、過ぎ去り、二度と帰らない青春時代への切ない想いが胸に残ります。若竹七海さんの解説も二重丸。

端正なミステリー小説。文章が良くテンポもいいので読みやすい。
導入部は少々地味ですが、中盤あたりから物語展開にグイグイと引き込まれます。
少々の粗があっても気になりません、なぜ今まで敬遠していたのかと悔やまれる傑作ミステリー。
ラストの心の叫びは重く苦い、ハンマーのような破壊力で胸を打つ。

トリックや動機は偶然に頼り切ったこじつけが多く、全てにおいて
ご都合主義すぎ。本格ミステリとして期待するとがっかりします。
ヒントや伏線はかなりわかりやすく提示されているんですが、
犯行との関わり方に無理がありすぎて納得できませんでした。

ただ、この作品の場合は、そういった欠点を払拭するほど、
成長物語、青春小説としての出来がいいです。
学生の視点で見た「夏休みの最後の2週間」の描写が上手く、
また主人公姉弟のキャラクターが等身大で、超人的な推理力が
備わってるわけでも、社会的・金銭的に恵まれてるわけでもない、
きわめて普通の学生なところに感情移入できました。
引越しの荷物整理の描写や、関係者に話を聞きだすところも
学生ができるいっぱいいっぱいという感じで微笑ましいです。
キャラクターの魅力というより、描写全体が瑞々しい魅力に溢れています。
ラストの後味も別段悪くありませんでした。
現実的で主人公たちの成長を感じさせる、いい終わり方でした。
