待っていました駒子ちゃんシリーズ第３弾。
単行本で読むことを我慢し、文庫本が出るのをずっと待っていました。
待ってた甲斐あった〜。
「ななつのこ」「魔法飛行」は駒子目線で書いてあったんですが
これは駒子目線（表）ともう一つ（裏）、違う人から見た駒子。
駒子目線を普通に読んでいた私たちにとっては「こうも違うものなのか」と愕然（笑）としました。
どちらの話も素敵で、謎が氷解していき、そしてそのあとのじんわりした温かさ。
この作者ならではです。
読み終えて表紙を見て「ああ、だからペンギン」と変に納得もして。
ただあとひとつ、瀬尾さんの以前の顔も少し知りたくなってきました。
続編があったらいいなぁ〜。

「ななつのこ」と「魔法飛行」の裏にはなにがあったのか？　というある種、舞台裏を描いた作品です。
これまでの駒子シリーズを読んできた読者へのファンサービス、といったところでしょう。
物語の構成はWeb連載だったということもあってか、加納朋子さんの小説にしてはかなりトリッキー。
途中５０ページほどふた昔以上前の女子大生の手紙を読まされるのは、正直きつかったです。
そういうわけですので、前出の二つの小説を読んできた方なら買い。
そうでないなら前シリーズの二冊をコンプリートしてからどうぞ。

それから…岩手にかつて住んでいた身としては言わせていただきたい。
花巻から岩手山はくっきり見えませんよ！！！！

本書は『ななつのこ』『魔法飛行』に続く駒子シリーズ第三作（「番外編」と言った方が適切かもしれない）で、これまでの２作品が連作短編であったのに対し、本書は前半が『スペース』、後半が『バックスペース』の二部構成の作品で、駒子シリーズということで期待したのだが、残念ながらミステリー作品としては期待外れであった。

とくに本書の前半は、一応、謎解きを含んではいるのだが、少なくともミステリーファンならどういう謎が手紙に隠されているのかはおおよそ見当がつくし、読み物としてみたときもどうでもいいような手紙が長々続き、退屈極まりない。

しかし後半に関して言えば、（もはやミステリーでも何でもないが）読み物としては作者の持ち味が活かされた、せつなさというスパイスをちょっぴり加えた優しさにあふれた作品である。
後半の主人公を後押しする駒子の「ゴーサイン、だね」の駄洒落に口元も心も緩み、「今日も岩手山がきれいです。」と駒子あての手紙で締めくくるラストも爽やかで心地よい。

なお、最も注目すべきは後半に登場する「速水くん」で、彼のシチュエーションが本書の一番の成功だろう。
