　作者が奇術師としても有名なのは有名ですが、これは正に奇術の世界（アマチュアではありますが）を舞台にした作品。

　最大の読み所は、作中作である短編集『１１枚のとらんぷ』。これが素晴らしい。この部分だけ抜き取っても一級のミステリ作品なのです。更にその内容が現実世界の事件解決に結び付いて行くという趣向なのですが、そんな事は取り敢えずどうでもよくなって、この短編集に没入してしまう事請け合い。そしてハッと気が付いた頃に本編の解決編がやって来ます。勿論本筋も秀逸ですよ、念の為。

　魔術のようなオドロオドロしい雰囲気はなく、読んでいると
「私も奇術をひとつおぼえたいな」
と思ってくるお話でした。
　作中に挿入された短編集が非常に面白く、全ての奇術の種が最後に出てきて
「うーん、なるほど」
とうならせられるものばかりでした。

　種やしかけのあるマジックがたくさん出てきて、それも楽しい推理小説でした。

奇術師ならではの一風変わった作品です。
メタミステリーの手法を取り入れながら、本格として見事に成立しているのですが、
やはり奇術師ならではのトリックのネタばらしが楽しい。
全体的にコミカルに仕上がっているので、肩肘張らずに楽しんで読めます。
読み終わってみれば伏線の宝庫。謎解きにチャレンジしたい方は、作中作「１１枚
のとらんぷ」はようく読みましょう。
