最終場面で「犯人の条件は第1に何々、第2に・・・、それをすべて満たすのは何某」と真相を明かすクイーンお得意のパターン。しかし、推理のみで物証はなく、犯人の具体的行動も示されないので、かなり欲求不満を感じた。
また、犯人は2度まで他人を陥れる罠を仕掛けるが、クイーンのような風変わりな人間しか気がつかない罠ではリアリティに欠ける。それに、第1の罠ではその家の主人が急死する前夜に出されたティーセットが、なぜ葬儀の日まで仕舞われなかったのか？、第2の罠では犯人はなぜ他人の家のタイプライターの特徴を知っていたのか？、などについても納得のいく説明がない。さらに、事件の発端で、出棺の5分前に金庫にあることが確認されている遺言状が、人のいる部屋から紛失、棺桶に隠されたのではというクイーンの主張に従って、掘り返してみるともう一つの死体が・・・、というのも奇を衒いすぎて不自然になってしまっている。
エジプト十字架と同じく、ストーリー展開は面白いのでページ数の割には退屈しないが、推理小説としての出来は今ひとつではなかろうか。

探偵役のクィーンが犯人の巧妙な手口によって何度もミスリードされ、状況は二転三転し、最後の最後にどんでん返しで真犯人が判明しますが、意外と言うよりはちょっとずるい感じがして、やや不満が残ります。蘊蓄が多いので、全体としてやや冗長ですが、ストーリーの展開は面白く、一気に読めて、それなりに楽しめます。

エジプト十字架の謎が通例では一番の傑作と評されているようですが、僕は一番はこの「ギリシャ棺」だと思います。プロット・状況設定全てにクイーンの冴えたストーリー・テラーぶりが発揮され、その意外な犯人にたどり着くまで一気に読ませるその技量たるや素晴らしいの一言。国名シリーズ全部読まなくてもこれは読んで欲しい。
