この作者の作品を読んできましたが、ここ5年くらい新作が出ていなかったので、この人は4作で終わりかぁ〜なんて勝手に思い込んでいましたが、東京創元社からの久しぶりの新作です。
本作では、これまでミステリの常套手段だったトリックで、近年は使いづらくなったものを逆手に取るというもので、この発想はなかったなと思いました。凄いです。
今年の「このミステリーがすごい!」のベスト10に入ることは間違いないと思います。
ミステリ好きならお勧めです！　ぜひ読んでみてください！

ネタを割ることができないのでアレですが、とても素直な本格推理です。石崎探偵ものも自虐ネタとおたくネタの飾りをはがせばガチガチの本格でしたが、この作品では（ぴー）が可能になった時代に（ぴ−）を成立させるにはどうすればいいかを論理的に追求しています。推理小説でなければ描けないような非常に残酷な手段でそれは実現されます。また、背景となる基礎的な情報を丁寧に説明してくれる点、技術系の仕事を本業としているだけのことがあり、大変に好感が持てます。ワトソン役と探偵役の書き分けがちょっと弱いかな。その方が確かにリアルではありますが、推理小説としてはもうちょっと外連があってもいい気がする。とりあえず一点引いておくことにします。

今までの，女子高生に翻弄される探偵のシリーズとは異なり，
装いも新たなホームズ・ワトソンのペアが誕生した。

大学の助手を務める影石は，かなり口が悪く主人公をののしるが，
心の優しい友人である。
東野圭吾の「ガリレオ」より偏屈で，アクの強いキャラクターだ。

鬼の伝説に見立てた連続殺人事件が，舞台となる離れ小島で起こる。

伝説自体がとても稚拙で，主人公が口にする度，
物語がしらけてしまうのは否定できないが，
最後のオチは非常に素晴らしく，上手くまとまっていた。
