冒頭の独白から、これはくるぞという予感を抱かせるに十分ですが、中盤、
若干テンポが悪いと感じました。くどいというか、じれったい展開で少々
スピード感不足な感は否めず。削れるエピソードも結構あると思います。
オチもまずまずですが、読後感がいいとは言えません。
しかしながら、散りばめたプロットをうまくまとめていますし、かなり予想
を裏切られた部分もあります。力作なのは間違いありません。

　『ゲッベルスの贈り物』『六色金神殺人事件』などで、極めてオフビートなミステリ世界を構築した作者。新作は、前二作とはまた趣きを変えている。言ってみれば、ＰI小説とデクスター調ディテクティヴの相乗パロディを都会派小説的に仕立てあげた、という感じ。ね、何だか訳分からないでしょ。でも、読んで見ると――やっぱり面妖なんだ（笑)。もう、あっちこっち引っ張りまわされる。ビミョーな関節外しが随所にあって、もしかしたら読者はからかわれた気分になるかも。――合言葉は、ギブソン。パールオニオンを浮かべたカクテル。この苦い味――だけれども、主人公がすれ違うキャラクターたちの色鮮やかなこと。このアーバンストーリー、その実、高齢者含有率が高い。そのひとりひとりを「老人」のステレオタイプに押し込めることなく、適度な愛嬌と頑なさを以て素描する。特に、黒田という親爺とリッシュの修がいい味を出している。――これなら、悪酔いしないね。

　上司の失踪事件ををさぐるうちに、近所で起こっていた他の失踪事件や、怪しい赤い車の存在や、隠し子がいたかもしれないなどというような、事件に絡みそうなさまざまな出来事が明るみになる。
　主人公がお人よし過ぎるけど、１人の人間に対する思い込みって、実際もこんなものなのかもしれないなって思いました。
