第25回吉川英治文学新人賞受賞作
文句なく、2004年を代表する一作品である。

作品はいきなり、河崎と椎名が書店を襲う場面から始まる。
わざわざ書店を襲って、盗むのは「広辞苑」一冊だけ。

この「なぜ？」から作品にグイッと引き込まれる。作品は「2年前」と「現在」の話が交互に進み、さまざまな謎が最終局面で明らかとなる。これまでの4作品同様、作者のセンスある文章を堪能しながら、本作品を楽しんで頂きたい。

作者自身、「ミステリーでは伏線の張り方が難しい」とインタビューで答えているが、確かに本作品でも、その点に若干の甘さがみられる。この作品の場合、特に先にネタが分かってしまうと作品のおもしろさが半減するため、レビュー・書評等を読むことなく、本作品を読み始めることをおすすめする。

伊坂作品は初めて。本屋で立ち読みしたら、冒頭から本屋襲撃の誘いとはびっくり。思わず買ってしまった。伊坂さんは文章が洒脱だとよく評されてるけど、ちょっとくどい感じがした。でも嫌みではなくてすらすら読める。現在と過去を舞台に２つの話を並行して展開していって、最後に合体するところは鮮やか。他の作品も読んでみたい。

『こんな展開ありかよ~』と思わず言ってしまいたくなります。
深く考えずにスラスラ読んでいたら、まんまと騙されてしまいました。寧ろ騙されていたかったですね。強い強いと思い込んでいたので、なんだか残念なのですが、この本を読んで、こう、案外人は脆いのよ、というのを実感したりしました。そんなことを思うと涙が出てきました。
そんな趣旨の小説ではないのかもしれませんが、是非読む人の観点で何倍も何倍も味わってほしい小説だなぁと思います。
スッキリするかどうかは、個人のとららえ方ですね。私は満足しました。お勧めですｖ思わず友人に回してしまいました。
