今でも数多くのアイリッシュアメリカンがアイルランドに自らの先祖探しに訪れます。彼らの先祖は、なぜアメリカに追放されるかのように移住したのか。なぜ大飢饉以後もアイルランドからの移民が絶えなかったのか。そしてなぜ彼らのほとんどが富を築いた後なお国に帰ろうとしなかったのか・・・この本はそれら多くの疑問を解決する一つの歴史書であり、また同時に名も無き移民たちひとりひとりの物語にもなっています。
アイルランドやアメリカに少しでも興味のある方にお勧めの１冊です。

4.0 out of 5 stars アイルランドに詳しくなくても、楽しめると思います。, 2002/10/23
　とても読み易いです。少々物足りなさを感じたものの、移民の特徴などもあげられ、よくまとまっていると思いました。移民の手紙やその生涯があり、読むとリアルに当時の様子が伝わってきました。テレビで放送したのをまとめたせいか、ドラマ性を誇張している感も。
