真の男、真のＨＥＲＯ、松井秀喜。

最近、「世界チャンピオン」になった某選手ではないが、人がどう思おうが自分がやりたいようにやる、というスタイルを世間が囃すような風潮が目立ってきていないか。

松井選手がジャイアンツを去り、ヤンキースに行くとき、自らを「裏切り者」と言った記者会見。日本の厚遇を捨てて新しいチャレンジをする松井選手に快哉を送るひとも多かったのに松井選手は最後まで「残って欲しい」と思うひとへの配慮を忘れなかった。

真のＨＥＲＯは結果や記録だけでなく、常に自分が公的存在であり、自らの行動が周囲に及ぼす結果に思いを致すもの。やくみつる氏はその何某に「しつけ糸」を渡したが、松井秀喜の爪の垢もあわせて進呈したいものである。

男はかくあるべし。

第１章　メジャーデビュー（言葉の数１５），第２章　高校時代（同７），第３章　巨人時代（同２０），
第４章　ワールドシリーズ（同１３）　＿の４つの章に分けて，その時代において松井選手が発した言葉と，
その時期における松井選手の境遇と背景をもとに，著者がその言葉の意味づけを解説しています。

各チャプターが４ページと読みやすく，「５５編の短編集」の趣きです。著者の洞察力の高さも光ります。
漢字にふりがなは振っていませんが，マンガ世代の子供にも読みやすいと思います。そんな私は，
中学で野球をしている息子の誕生日に，この本をプレゼントしました。＿もともとファンであった息子は，
本を読んでいたく感動しておりました。

私は，それほど熱烈な松井選手のファンではありませんでしたが，この１冊を読んで，彼の誠実で，理性の高い
その人柄に惚れました。ビッグマウスで「発言内容とその後の結果が伴わない」スポーツ選手が多い中で，
まさに「男の中の男」。そんなフレーズがピッタリです。

なお，巻末には，甲子園−巨人−ヤンキース（2006年の骨折で戦列を離れるまで）＿の「公式戦全打席成績データ」が載っています！
