片岡さんが自分の好みの文房具（ノート、鉛筆、消しゴム、輪ゴムなど）を買って、それを自分好みに写真に撮った本。（こういう本を出せる彼は恵まれた作家だなぁと思う。）

たくさんの真新しいノートが積み重なって写っている写真を見て、忘れていた気持ちがよみがえる。学生のとき新しいノートを買うたびに「さ、勉強するぞ！」と思ったものだ。新しい手帳を買うと、「充実した毎日にしたい！」と思ったものだ。でも実際には１冊のノートや手帳を最後まで使い切ることはないのだった。

「人生とは、ひょっとして、なにごとかをびっしりと書き込んだ、何十冊もの手帳やノートブックか」とは片岡さんがつぶやいた言葉。
そんな風に考えると理想と現実のギャップに息苦しくなってきそうだ。わたしの場合、「人生とは、途中までしか書けなかったたくさんの手帳やノートブックか。（書き始めるときはいつも楽しかった。）」

　何気なく寄った本屋で平積みの本を見ていると、ひときわシャレた装丁の本。　タイトルを見て、著者を見て、思わずニヤリ。　手にして中をみたら、これは驚き。見開きで写真とエッセイが交互にあるのです。

　エッセイは、著者独特の味のある文体で、様々な文房具への思いを綴っています。　写真はその文房具を著者自身が愛用のカメラで撮影したものです。　取り上げられている文房具は、モールスキンの手帳から始まって、ディクソン・タイコンデローガの鉛筆、様々なリーガルパッドや消しゴム、チョーク等。どれもちょっとコダワリを感じる、小粋な品々です。

　価格は１６００円。　一瞬、「文庫本になるまで待とうか？」と邪悪な心が持ち上がりましたが、著者の想いが詰まった写真の質感は、文庫本??したら伝わって来ないだろうと思い直し、買ってしまいました。

　片岡義男ファン、文房具好きには、たまらない一冊です。　夏休みの一日、好きな飲みものを用意して、ゆっくりとページを繰って過ごすのにピッタリの本です。

　大人、子供、男性、女性といった区別無く、意識していないけれど、誰でもが文房具が大好きです。必ずお気に入りの文房具が一つか二つは鞄の中や机の上にあるものです。だから、文房具のことが書いてある本には心が動いてしまいます。
　この本は、作家片岡 義男が文房具店に行き、自分で選んで買い求め、写真を撮りながら、文房具への思いや記憶をつづっています。
　著者は、本郷にある小さな輸入文房具を扱っている文具店がお気に入りのようで、沢山買い物をしたようです。お店の中を思い出しながら、夏休みの一日を楽しみました。
