5.0 out of 5 stars 噛みしめながら読みたい本, 2003/9/15
かつて藤原新也の本ばかり夢中で読んでいたことがあったが、なんとはなしにしばらく遠ざかってしまっていた。その私が十何年ぶりかに手に取ったのがこの本である。なんと文章に深みが増したことであろう。一気に読んでしまうことができず、立ち止まり立ち止まり、噛みしめながら読み終えた。間に挿入された写真がまたすばらしい。亡くなった旧友との苦い思い出にひたりながら電車に乗っていた著者の目の前に、菜の花の一群が立ち現れる。「天国からのおくりもの」と著者は感じシャッターをきる。ページをめくり、その写真が色鮮やかに現われたとき、まるでその場に立ち会っているかのような感動を覚えた。貴重な本である。

表題作を始め、この本に収められているエッセイのほとんどは鎮魂の香 りがします。
それは藤原の両親であり、兄であり、また近しく交わった人への鎮魂です。しかし、
それだけでなく、彼がすでに失ってしまった故 郷の原風景、懐かしいなにものかへ
の深い憧憬も感じます。人の世の深い哀しみ、人が生きていくことの哀れみ、心の
奥の何かどうしようもな ものに触れられる、そんなエッセイが並んでいます。

彼が四国の旅で撮った写真も入れられており、エッセイの内容と微妙に 重なってい
ます。。荒いタッチであったり、あるときはピンボケしてい たりするこれらの写真を
見ていると、妙に切ないような、もの悲しいよ うな感情が沸き起こってくるのです。
生きていくことは悲しくて、だか ら、「なにも願わない手をあわせる」ことが大事なの
かもしれません。

藤原新也の「全東洋街道」は印象に残っている。素っ気ないけど色は多い写真とコンパクトな文章。その後は、書店でぱらぱら見たことはあるがしばらく買っていなかった。この本の題名に興味が持たれて久々に購入した。
この本は死へとつながる自分自身や周りの人たちを念頭に置きながら、同じような構成でつないでいる。

どこまで計算尽くなのかわからなくなるが、引き込まれる。
祈りや願いが伝わってくる写真も多い。
少し変わった著者の雰囲気を楽しめる。
