激しい筋力トレーニングをおこなったあとに、トレーニングの負荷による疲労からの回復過程において、もとのレベル以上に達することを「超回復」といい、この効果を獲得するためには休息が必ず必要である。
本書では、ビジネスで必要とされるエネルギーにも超回復の理論が適用されることが書かれている（超回復という言葉は使われていないが）。具体的なビジネスマンをキャラクターとするコンサルティングのストーリーを通じて、身体、情動、頭脳、精神の４つの分野で、どのようにエネルギーを管理し、超回復を利用して強化していくかというトレーニング方法を解説している。
本書を読むことにより、ビジネスで優れたパフォーマンスを上げるには「時間を管理するのではなくエネルギーを管理すること」、そして、「エネルギーを管理するには、上手に休息を取ることと、エネルギーを回復させるための儀式（決まった時間に休憩を取る、毎朝散歩をする等の自分なりの行動様式）が重要であること」を実感することができる。
ただし、本書に出てくるトレーニングプログラムはハイラム・スミスが提唱する「自分の価値観を明確にし、価値観に基づいて行動することによりストレスをなくす」（『TQ心の安らぎを発見する時間管理の探求』）トレーニングに似ており、目新しいものではない。

自分のもっているエネルギーの限界を感じ、日常生活のどういったところに可能性をもっていけるかを模索している本。若いころは、どこからともなく好奇心や興味がわいてきたが、毎日の日常を過ごしているうちにいつの間にか毎年毎年去年と似たような自分を感じはじめたら、本書を読む価値がでてくるだろう。ただ、本書は独自の理論を展開しているわけではなく、今まで似たり寄ったりの既存の理論をうまくつぎはぎしているようなところも多々あるので、自分なりのプログラムをすんなりたてられにくそうな感じで星３つ。ただ、内容的にはとても示唆に富んでおり、この本を読むというよりは、読んだ後実践の価値がありそう。

「ビジネスマンはスポーツマンよりタフであらねばならない」という前提の下、一流スポーツマンが１００％の実力を発揮し勝つためのノウハウをビジネスマンに応用する内容である。強い肉体のあり方をベースに情緒や精神のタフネスを合理的に解説している良書です。
