最初、サメが好きでサメの資料を、と買ってみたのですが、いやはやなんとも言えないサメ達の美しさに圧倒でした。『ジョーズ』シリーズやその他のサメ映画で悪者扱いされてますが、ダマされないで下さい。ホントはサメは神秘的で美しい動物です。この本を見ればわかります。悪者扱いされてるサメがとてもかわいそうに思えてきますよ。サメと一緒に泳いでみたい・・。そんな気分にさせてくれた本でした。

単なる、サメ・エイの図鑑だと思って買ってみましたが、図鑑としての充実度はもちろんのこと、読み物としてもかなり充実していました。
他の図鑑に比べて説明やコラム、写真がかなり充実していて読んで面白い本です。

説明は１、和名・英名　２、科　３、分布域　４、生活域　５、大きさ　６、習性からなっていて、有名な種については習性の説明が数ページにもわたっているものもあります。
基本は１頁に２種の説明になっています。
ダイバーにはこの１冊あれば、サメ・エイに関しては十分すぎるぐらいです。

サメ・エイにそんなに興味が無い人でも、見るだけでも楽しめる本で、魚に興味のある人、ダイバーには誰でもオススメの本でちょっと高いですが買って損はしないと思います。

興味本位で買うには値段が張るという意見もあるだろうが、
ほぼフルカラーで掲載されている写真はそれを見るだけでも
価値があると思われる。
読了後の感想としては十分お買い得と言える。
サメと言えば、最近ではようやく絶滅危機種としての認識を得られてきているとはいえ、一般の感覚としてはいまだ恐怖の対象である。
その点、本書の解説は幾分エコロジカルな視点に寄りすぎている感は
あるものの、興味深い美しい海洋生物としての側面を見せてくれると
いう意味で、とても価値のある一冊だと思う。
門外漢にもそれほど敷居の高い本では無いので、
サメ・エイに興味があり、若干の財布の余裕があるならば是非読んでみることをお薦めします。
