この本は､小説ではありません。
エッセイでもありません。
もちろんルポルタージュでも学習参考書でもない。
強いて言えば、まぁ一種のコラム？見る目で見れば慣用句辞書かも？

でも、やっぱりこれは、｢商品カタログ｣なのです。
口車、堪忍袋の緒･･･
この商品説明を読んでいると、なんだか欲しくなる。

そして、あまり普段は使っていない、「口車に乗せられた！」とか言ってみたくなってきてしまう。
日本語っておもしろかったんだ、と小学生が初めて慣用句を聞いたときの気持ちを思い出せることでしょう。

実用書でも小説でもないので、ジャンルは本当に分けにくいですが、
ちょっと覗いて、ちょっと「にやり」と笑って、

小さなユーモアに自分がココロにゆとりを持ったような、そんな気分になれる本です。
通勤のお供に、少しずつ読むのがいいかもしれません。

「ないもの」とは、決して「漢字伝来前の日本の文字」などというものではない。もっと日常的に接している筈なのに、「ない」ものたちだ。しかしどの商品も魅力的で、おそらくあらゆるコレクターが入手したくなるであろうものばかりだ。

商品説明のような注意書きは、ときとしてドキリとさせられる。だがそれは「左うちわ」や「思う壺」といった「ないもの」を入手するための当然のリスクとも言える。
非常に惜しいのは、通販カタログならばしつこいほど書いてある「購入のための連絡先」がどこにも書いていないことである。

舌鼓とか、堪忍袋の緒とか、実在しないけど、買えたらいいな、とみんが思っている物。それを売っているのが、クラフト・エヴィング商會（吉田篤弘＋吉田浩美）。その絵入りパンフレットと効能書き、使用上の注意を集めたのが本書。

僕が一番気に入ったのは、「地獄耳」。

「本品は『耳栓』ではありませんが、『ただの耳栓』としてもお使い頂けます。」（なぜかは、本書を読んでのお楽しみということで。）

笑いの中に深く考えさせられるものがあります。
