橋本治作品の裏舞台を知ることができます。

万年筆が考える・・・

仕事をもっとできるかどうか、肩に聞く・・・

など、ある「域」に達した人でないと

わからないと思われる話が多いところが

対談終了後、出版まで３年かかった理由でしょうか？

『窯変源氏物語』を、書きながら朗読していたとか、

格好いい漢字を探すために漢和辞典を引きっぱなし

だったといった話などは、『窯変源氏物語』を

読むときに思い出すと、楽しくなるかもしれません。

2005年に行われたお二人の対談が、やっと１冊の本になりました。
お二人のファンとしては、「私のための企画だわ♪」と嬉しくなってしまいます。
特に、二十年来の橋本治ファンとしては内田先生が羨ましくてなりません。
形式としては「対談」なのですが、橋本さんを敬愛してやまない内田先生が「聞き手」に回ることで橋本さんの「魅力」「秘密」を解明しよう、というような感じです。
「内田先生が対談という形で書いた橋本治論」というか。
橋本ファンとしては読んでいる間にやにやしっぱなしで楽しくてしょうがないのですが、橋本さんをよく知らない内田先生のファンにとってはどうなのでしょうね。
お二人の稀有な思考回路から紡ぎ出されるやりとりは、「どっちもよく知らない」という人にとってももちろん刺激的だと思いますけれども。

この対談本は、
橋本氏の「だからねー、対談集なんてつながってりゃいいとしか
思ってないから、それでいいやと思うんだけど、そんなものを本にして、何か
意味があるのかと思って」(p198)と次ページの
「バラエティー番組に俳優が出てきてしゃべっちゃうと、その俳優ってもう
ダメなんですよね。自分を見せちゃうから。伝統芸能の人なんて、呼ばれても
自分の佇まいを崩さないようにしてて、その人の素顔なんてわからない。
その人の素顔なんかわからない。なんかそれなりのエピソードを話して、
「ああそういうエピソードもあるのか」とは思うけれども、その人の素顔なんか
まったくわからない。昔はそういう人たちだらけだったんです。そういう人ほど、
自分がやるべき芸を誇示できているんですよね。いまはそうじゃなくて「パーソナリティーが
売れればいい」になっちゃってるわけで、俺は俳優にそういう見方をしたくないんですよ。
にすべて要約されている。ここで俳優と発言されている名詞を、作家と換えて読めば、
橋本氏のp198の語りがよく分かる。
しかし、内田氏のまえがきに書いてあるようなことではなく、この本には
橋本氏の具体的に自作名を挙げて、創作のエピソードは語られている。
そして、橋本氏の他の著作に書かれているテーマについて理解が進むように思う。
読んでみて思うことは、内田氏のファンは、この本を読んでいつもの論がまるで
届かないでうねっている内田氏を知ることになる。それを、発見とみるか調子が
悪いと感じるか橋本氏が偏屈で話が通じないとっさんだといらいらするかは、
内田氏のファンがそれぞれが評価すればいい。正直、互いの著作物としては失敗していると
思う。でも、面白いよ。
