この物語は、ミノベとアレグリアの戦い。
アレグリアと真っ向から戦うミノベが凄い。
怒鳴りつけたり、飛び蹴りをくらわすかと思えば、細かくデーターを取って無能力ぶりを分析したり…。
一方、アレグリアの性悪ぶりも堪らない。
そうそう！こういうのあるよね。
サービス呼ぶと急に直っちゃったり…。
何故、この機械だけアダシノだけが担当で、時間外で対応するのか…。
ここに隠された謎が解明されて、そう言う訳かと納得
もう一作の「地下鉄の叙事詩」
混雑した地下鉄の中に渦巻く敵意や悪意で、背筋が薄ら寒くなるほど。
私には、やや読みにくい文体ではありますが、芥川賞受賞作『ポトスライムの舟』を読むのが楽しみです。

人の心のなかの、ぐちゃぐちゃ思っていたり、ねちねちと考え続けていたりすることを、
津村さんはいつもリアルに再現する。
実際、コピー複合機や紙折り機の不調は、私の事務所でも頻繁に起こる。
でも、うちのはボロボロの旧式だから……と、営業ともども人間が耐え忍んでいる。

「アレグリアとは仕事はできない」に描かれた、会社の日常のリアルさと滑稽さ。
身に覚えがある人は多いだろう。
ミノベの役回りになってしまったメンテのフォロー。
そう、廻るエリアが決まっているからいっつも同じ担当者が来る。
で、頻繁だとお互いとても気まずいのだ。

アレグリアが最新式と謳われた機種であるだけに、動かないことが許せないミノベ。
ミノベの苛立ちを理解しない周囲との温度差がおもしろい。ミノベのように、果敢に
アレグリアに立ち向かう者あれば、先輩のようにじぶんの胸ひとつに不満を留めようとして、
コワレる人がいる。
アレグリアの不調の理由が、思いもよらないことであっただけに、翻弄された人間関係が
際立って、滑稽にも虚しくも感じられる。

「地下鉄の叙事詩」も、煮詰まった場の人の心理描写と濃い空気が、本当にリアル。
混んだ電車で通勤通学する人なら、誰でもこんなこと、しょっちゅう思っているはず。
気持ちのいい話ではないが、濃密な描写が津村さんらしい作品だと思う。

　「コピー機が憎い！！」を改題したことからも分かるように、アレグリアは印刷・コピー複合機である。すぐに不可解なウォームアップに入ったり、紙詰まりを起こしたり、実際腹の立つオフィス機械は多い。擬人化して「ふざけんなよ忙しいのに」などと悪態をついたり、「何でもぴーぴー文句言うんじゃないよ」などと機械を叩いて苛立ったりしたことは、私もある。
　本当は、機械には罪はない。整備不良のメンテナンス担当者や、使い方を間違った人間の方に責任がある。だが、誰が責任者なのかを追求するよりは、私たち日本人は機械に悪態をついて憂さ晴らしする方を選ぶ。ＯＬの滑稽なほどまじめな生き様が、微妙なユーモア小説のように仕上がっている。
　併録の書き下ろし「地下鉄の叙事詩」は、不愉快な地下鉄の日常を多面的に描いた物だが、描かれる心情の余裕のなさが息苦しい。
