　『コレクターシップ』という題で出た本を増補改題したものだそうです。
　コレクターシップ、というのは著者の造語です。
＜　じつは、私が秘かに本書で企てているのは、“集める”ことが、そのまま生活と精神の両面を豊かにし、さらには自分自身の発想を自由に広げていく叡智の基礎となる、そんなコレクションの楽しみ方を確立することである。その方法、あるいは精神を、私はコレクターシップと呼ぶことにしたい。＞（３５~３６頁）
　ということで、おもに古今のさまざまなコレクターのコレクターシップぶりを紹介するものになっております。
　いや、よかったですね。今西菊松なんて人のコレクション人生には感動すらおぼえます。
　俺も鳥居絵はがきコレクターのはしくれではありますが、俺なんてほんとちっぽけな、コレクターとも呼べねえレベルだなあ、って思います。つうかなりたくない。
　まあ、俺の文章よりも、巻末の紀田順一郎の解説をお読みいただいたほうが。

好きなものを,ある思想に基づき,とことん集めぬいた時、そのコレクションは一つの世界をおのずと形成する｡それは,文化を支えている,文化そのものともいえるものではないだろうか。著者は,コレクターの一人として,｢集める｣ことに注目し,主にここでは日本の強力なコレクターたちや,パトロン達のあまりに面白い歴史を語る｡

また,豊かな財力を持った人々のみでなく,ただの人がコレクターとして生きた半生についての記述も面白い｡

タイトルは,元のとおり｢コレクターシップ｣でよかったのでは？集めることに興味のある人もない人も絶対楽しめます｡
