1945年香川県に生まれる。京都大学大学院文学研究科(仏教学)博士課程修了。文学博士。密教学専攻。種智院大学学長(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

空海の主著「秘蔵宝鑰」と「弁顕密ニ教論」が書き下し文と訳注が付いている。ただし、語釈はあまり親切ではなく意味が取りづらいところも結構見受けられた。密教の基礎知識があればよく分かるのだろうが、初心者には少しお勧めし難い。

しかし、空海のあの美しい文章はやはり魅力的だ。

三界の狂人は狂せることを知らず
四生の盲者は盲なることを識らず
生まれ生まれ生まれ生まれて生の始めに暗く
死に死に死に死んで死の終りに冥し

永遠の輪廻転生に対する深い嘆きの言葉。空海は少し詩的な感じがする。
概要や要旨が文の始めにあるので、それなりに理解は出来る。空海の主な著作が文庫で読めるので、画期的である。

正直言って、20代の頃、司馬遼太郎の「空海の風景」を読んで、空海のファン(失礼な言葉に聞こえるかもしれませんが)になりました。まだ、就職したての貧乏なSEだった頃、シリーズの名前はあやふやですが「弘法大師全集」を買い揃え、時間を見つけては読みふけった記憶があります。当時は1巻当たり1万円近くしたように覚えていますが、それが文庫本で読めるときが来るとは夢みたいです。当時買った「弘法大師全集」も幾多の人生の苦難から売り払ってしまいなくなってしまった今、この文庫化は非常にありがたいものです。
再度、空海に向き合えるという喜び、20代と違った40代の私が空海とどう向き合えるのか、20代の頃と同じく、完膚なきまでに叩きのめされるのか、あるいは40代から見た空海が青く見えるのか、非常に楽しみです。おそらく、完膚なきまでに叩きのめされるに違いありませんが・・・

空海最高の美文といわれる「秘蔵宝鑰」が収録されているので購入。文庫本は傷み易いので出来るだけ買わないのですが、今回は文庫本故のあまりの安さに寝返り。

「秘蔵宝鑰」は「秘密曼荼羅十住心論」の精髄を略述したとされていますが、文豪空海ですから「十住心論」に余分な言葉など無かったはず。別に著す意味があったはずなのです。まそんな事より、美文を味わうのが目的なんですが。ジュルル。

「弁顕密二教論」も収録。ちなみに「空海コレクション２」は「即身成仏義」「声字実相義」「吽字義」「般若心経秘鍵」「請来目録」を収録。今まで色々探し回ったのは一体何だったんだろうって程のお値打ち品です
