海野 和男
1947年生まれ。昆虫写真家。東京農工大学で昆虫行動学を学ぶ。卒業後フリーカメラマンに。アジア・アメリカの熱帯雨林に通い、最近は長野県小諸市を中心に身近な自然を記録している。日本自然科学写真協会副会長、日本昆虫協会理事(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

これはすごい。昆虫写真の第一人者による、いつまでも手元において楽しみたい一冊だ。魚眼レンズを使用することにより、虫たちをその生きる現場においてまるごと捉えることに成功した著者は、かれらの食事を、脱皮を、群れなす行動を、求愛を、飛行を、発光を、追い求め、画像に定着させる。一歩ごとに感嘆、その感嘆がこちらにも伝わってくる。「絵」としても美しい作品ばかりだ。極度に拡大された虫たちの顔つきのすごさ、恐さ！　冒頭近く、「アブラムシを食べるナミテントウ」や「イチイの実を食べるキイロスズメバチ」から、いきなり魅了される。どの「絵」もすごいが、８４ページの「ポピーとミツバチ」などは、この世のものとも思えない美しさだ。欲しいなあ、この写真。でっかく引き延ばして、部屋に飾りたいなあ。こうして見るとこの惑星＝地球が、ヒトを含む哺乳動物なんかよりはるかに虫たちのものであることを、またもや思い知らされる。がんばれ、虫たち！　われわれヒトは片隅でひっそり生きていきます、これからは。

5.0 out of 5 stars 昆虫の目から見た世界を迫力に満ちた写真で再現, 2005/1/12
　昆虫の目線で見たら、この世界はどう見えるのだろう。著者は魚眼レンズを使って撮影することで、この問いに一つの明確な解答を出した。魚眼レンズとは、対角線で１８０度まで撮影できるレンズである。このレンズを使って撮影した写真は、「ぼくのイメージ上の昆虫写真に極めて近い写真になった」と著者はいう。
　とにかく、この本を見て欲しい。大変に魅力的な写真が満載である。特に印象に残ったのは、「ホタルの木（インドネシア・スマトラ島）」「アカエリトチバネアゲハ（サラワク）」「コノハムシ」「コノハチョウ」「オオカバマダラ」などであるが、その他の写真も臨場感溢れる貴重なものとなっている。
　写真にばかり目を奪われがちだが、解説文も洗練されており、写真と文の二つで二倍に楽しめる。昆虫の大きさと重さ、そして速度についての分析は、まるで生物学者のようだ。テントウムシ、クロオオアリ、ノコギリクワガタ、アキアカネが人間の大きさだったらという視点から体重を比較したもので、着眼点がいい。

まず写真が美しい。
昆虫ってこんなに美しく、生き生きとしてるのか、見とれてしまいます。
写真だけにとらわれず、中身の文章もじっくりと味わってほしいと思います。著者の観察眼が深い。
人間と比較してみると、昆虫の方がはるかに進んでいるかな、とちょっと考えさせられます。
