小塩 隆士
1960年京都府生まれ。東京大学教養学部卒。同年、経済企画庁入庁。その後、J.P.モルガン等を経て、現在、東京学芸大学教育学部助教授。専門の社会保障について研究を続けるかたわら、初学者が経済および経済学への関心をより高めるような入門書も著している

　大変分かり易い経済の解説で感激した。高校生を読者に想定している本書は、経済学を全く知らない人でも、もっと経済および経済学を学びたいという気にさせる魅力を持っている。読んだあとに、これなら経済音痴の自分でも興味をもって学べそうだという気にさせられる。年金の仕組みについて、今までの自分のイメージは間違っていたことも知った。「腰を据えて経済学を勉強するのは嫌だが、経済学の考え方は知りたい」（8頁）という人にとってはもちろんのこと、経済学の考え方をこれ以上ないというくらいの簡潔さで読みたい人にとっては、格好の入門書である。

ミクロ経済からマクロ経済まで、高校生が興味をもって読めるように易しく説明してあります。需要と供給の決まり方から市場メカニズムについて、そして、なぜ政府が経済活動に介入する必要があるのか。日銀の役割とは。税金と財政のありかた。年金や国債に関しての世代間の対立、民主主義は所詮現役世代の多数意見を反映する意思決定の仕組みに過ぎないとの指摘にはまさにその通りであると感じました。高校生だけではなく一般社会人が読んでも示唆に富み、これから経済を再勉強しようという人にぴったりの本です。

著者は社会保障や経済政策分野において有名なエコノミストである。この著作は主に高校生をターゲットにしていると書いてあるが、それだけはなく、教養として経済を学ぶような人々、さらに他の経済入門書には歯が立たないという人、新しく経済学部に入学するような人々にも自信を持ってお勧めできる。特に強調できるのは需給曲線の導出の部分や、三面等価の部分がわかりやすいということである。あくまで入門であるので事細かく記されているわけではない。しかし、高校の教科書のように用語解説に終始したり、逆に大学の入門テキストのようにわかりづらく筆を進めてあるのでもなく、簡潔に、スリムに、そしてわかりやすく書かれている。。最後にこの本を読んで感じたことは高校の教科書のように暗記だけを目的としたような経済の歴史や、用語の理解だけに書かれた本ではなく、経済学の本質に係わるエッセンスが多分に、著者の専門分野を通した視点で理解を重視して描き出されているという事である。
