いったい何の目的で作られたのか？なぜコレで町おこしなのか？日本人が作った不思議ワールドのオンパレード。きっと一度は行ったことのある場所が載っているはず。これから町おこしを考える人や、普通の観光では満足できない人、とにかく不思議なものが好きな人、必見。
東日本編にあわせて西日本編もおすすめ。東と西の違いも面白い。

とにかく凄いボリューム、見つめるとめまいがする小さな写真の数々。大判の写真集の文庫版のため、目の悪い人にはお勧めしません(^^;。文字通り「日本の極北」な東北編がすばらしい。日本人の精神の根底にある、涅槃や仏教の世界...はいいんですが、あまり建築物として具体化しないでほしいという気も。西日本編もどうぞ。

色々な面白いスポットばかりを集めたこの本だが、廃墟物件（もしくはこの本の取材後に残念ながら廃墟となってしまった物件）も含んでいるせいか、住所が記載されていないのは仕方無いとはいえ、やや残念である。
しかし、最近自治体破産の例として、ニュース番組にもよく取り上げられる夕張市の物件などもあり、笑えないものもある。
でも、写真も多いが、説明も多いので、かなりハマッて読む事が出来る。ただ、文庫サイズで、しかもぶ厚いので、普通の文庫本や雑誌みたいに気軽に広げて読みにくいので、その点は気を遣う必要がある。
また、物件数が多いので、少々高くなるが西日本編も合わせて読むとまた面白い。
