ポール・ギャリコ夫妻の猫に対する愛情が全編から伝わってくる作品です。挿入の写真も、どれも可愛くて何度も見ました。
冒頭の連続で撮られてる”タイプを打つ猫”なんてカワイ過ぎて笑ってしまいます。ユーモアにも溢れた作品です。
ほんわかしたい気分のときにでも読んで欲しい本ですね。猫好きなら、「わかる！わかる！」と、笑ってしまうトコが沢山あります。まさに猫好きじゃなきゃ書けない本かもしれません。ポール・ギャリコさんがますます好きになりました。

ある野良猫が、飼い猫になり、その家の人間達を虜にする。
物語は、その猫本人が「書いた」もの。（タイプライターで！）
当然猫の視点で（いえ、猫が書いたんでした）(^_^;)、一人称（猫）で語られます。とても可愛らしいです。
そして、文中に挿入された写真の猫がものすごくかわいいっ！！！
猫好きの方にはぜひぜひお勧めしたい一冊です！

あとがきは大島弓子さん。

私は猫をペットとして飼っている、面倒見ている気持ちでいたようだ。
時には面倒見ることを投げ出したくなることもあった。
でも良く考えると家族の中で孤立しているような気分になったとき、猫と二人きりになった時、抱きしめて話しかけたり、一緒に眠ったりずいぶん助けられてるじゃない、とこの本を読みながらうなってしまった。
話は人間をどのように操るかと言うことを年老いたメス猫の語りかけで進んでゆく。だけどそれがなんだかとっても面白いのだ。うちにも猫がいたので「声を出さないニャ-オ」（食事が気に入らないときに良くやってた）とか「食事時のおすそ分けのおねだり」はよくされたものだ。こちらもゲンキンなものでそれらの呼びかけに応えたり、ほっといたり。機嫌が悪ければ追い払う事だってあった。
それをあんなふうに冷静に感じてるの？？なんて考えるだけで楽しくなる。そうか君たちも私たち人間に根気よく付き合っているのねとニヤリとしてしまうような内容。写真もかわいらしく、身近に同じような猫の姿を見たことのある人なら思わず微笑んでしまうもの。
最後の大島弓子さんのエピソードもいい。どうしても自分より先に逝ってしまうことが多いけれど、でもその喪失感すらいとおしさとしていつまでも残っていくのだ。多くの人たちがそれを経験していることだろう。
