「美醜について」など、日常において話すことがタブーとなっているような焦点から切り込み、深くえぐるような議論を展開しています。全般的にすばらしいのですが、中でも私が感銘を受けたのは「恋愛について｣という章です。

筆者は、若い男女が、単なるいちゃつきとしての恋愛・孤独からの逃避という側面の大きい恋愛・虚栄恋愛・裏でもろもろの計算が働いているあまりに契約的な恋愛、というものに陥りやすいことをあげています。

また、「僕はあなたを愛している・あなたが好きだ」というセリフがありますが、この恋愛の宣言は、あくまで「あなたを」愛しているという意味で、その相手に個性を見出した、という宣言でもあります。
しかし、どうしてこのようなことが言えるのか。というのも、このような宣言をした時点ではあくまでAさんを愛しているのかもしれないが、生きているうちに他の女性とも出会っていく中で、その女性により魅力を感じる・より個性を見出す、という可能性は否定できないからです。
このような可能性を否定できない上で、なお、1人の異性を愛し続ける「永続的な恋愛」とはいかにして可能か、と議論は展開していきます。

私は、この一連の議論を読んで、恋愛について根本的に考え直させられました。現在恋人はいませんが、次、もし誰かと付き合うとすれば、充実した恋愛になるだろう、また、そうしてみせようと思っています。

女性週刊誌に連載されていたものをまとめただけあって，非常に易しい言葉遣いで，深く考え抜かれた幸福論を教えてくれる． 人生の要素別に，各章がなりたっていて，拾い読みをするのにも向く．

｢幸福論｣というと，生半可で甘い，浅はかなものが世に多い． だが本書は，福田恒存氏の鋭いメスのような思想を，それこそ老若男女問わず受け止められるような形で書かれている．もちろん，福田恒存氏の思想が薄められている事はなく，福田恒存氏のほかの書籍を読まれた事のある方々にも自信を持ってお勧めできる．

福田恒存に興味をもち始めたひとは，最初に読むのならこれがよいかも．

福田さんの著作は全部好きです。
小林秀雄さんが福田さんを評して「清潔な鳥」と仰られたように、
卑怯さが全く感じられません。

「私の幸福論」は中でも好きな著作です。
丁寧な言葉で書かれていて、中身は物凄く深く、何より感動的です。

他に好きな福田さんの著作は「芸術とはなにか」「人間、この劇的なるもの」
とか、全部好きです。
