イギリスの歴史をブラックユーモアたっぷり、とってもシニカルに書いた一冊です。
歴史の嫌いなイギリスの子供向けにかかれている本なので、細かい事には触れず、最初にブリテン島に上陸した人達から近代まで、ざっとユーモラスにさらっています。挿絵も豊富です。

ただ、あとがきにもありますが「ユーモア性を強調しすぎて事実とは多少ずれた場面」も時々あります。
また、本の中でフランス人の事を「蛙」と呼んだり、ちょっとブラックユーモアが過ぎるかな？と感じてしまう場面もちらほら…。
日本の歴史本でこれと同じような物が出たら問題になりそうです（＾＾；）
ユーモアたっぷりに歴史を学びたい人にはオススメ。

ちゃんとした歴史を学びたい人は別の本を……

皆さんの評価がなかなかでしたのでかなり期待しながら読みました。バッチリです。歴史嫌いの方にも、歴史としてではなく噂話的な感覚で読めるんじゃないかと思います。専門家の方には物足りないかも。

　寝ながら気軽に読めてイギリス史の大雑把な流れを掴むにはいいが、読んだ後に殆ど頭に残らない本です。　
平均的な日本人には正直わかりにくい部分がある。　　　　　　
「百年戦争？　何それ」みたいな高校生にとっては中世から近世にかけての章は人名の羅列をしてるだけに思えるかもしれない。　
文庫化する際に歴代の王朝の系譜図とかイギリスの当時の地図などを注釈として入れてほしかった。　　
入門書としてイギリス人向けにはいいかもしれないが日本人の読者向けには正直、微妙な本ではないかな。
