~偉大なチェリスト、という使い古された形容詞では到底表現しえないほど深遠な音楽的洞察、精神の高貴さ、そして優しさとユーモア。それが巨匠自身の言葉、数々の有名人のコメントで断片的につづられている。たったそれだけの本なのだが、時に彼の慈愛に満ちた言葉に癒され、時に平和への切なる願いに涙無くしては読めない。「たった一つのフレーズに感動する~~ことが出来る。後は人の間違いをあげつらってばかりいる奴が取り沙汰すれば良い」とは辛辣ながら音楽の本質への愛を指した言葉。音楽ばかりでなく全てへの愛。決してパイプを手放さず、時には間抜けなどたばたをやらかす人間味あふれたエピソードの数々。音楽を愛する、愛していた、あるいはこれから愛する全ての人に読んで欲しい。陳腐な言い方ですが、きっ~~と癒されます。~

　不朽の名チェリスト、パブロ・カザルスの語録、逸話、批評等々を集大成。世紀の巨匠の様々な素顔を見せてくれる。
　忍耐強く努力を惜しまず、生涯を芸術の追及に捧げた大芸術家カザルス。批判や反発を受けようとも自分の信念を曲げず、チェロの奏法改革を成し遂げたマエストロ・カザルス。

　しかし、彼はけして雲の上の人ではなく、冗談も言えばいたずらもし、緊張もすれば失敗もする。
　また、祖国カタルーニャへの思いあふれる愛国者カザルス。スペイン内乱勃発の夜のくだりは、胸にしみる。
　そして繰り返し叫ばれる芸術によって世界を一つにという願い…

　この本は愛に満ちた人間カザルスと、彼を慕う人々―近親者を始め、著者・翻訳者ならびにこの本の制作に関わった全ての人々をも含めた―の愛の結晶である。
　「チェロを愛するすべての人に」と扉にはあるが、音楽・人類そして地球を愛するすべての人に読んでほしい秀作だ。
