私が初めてランボーを読んだのは、小林秀雄の訳でした。あの訳の単純なかっこよさは、高校生の私の脳味噌に直撃し、以来、私はランボー！ランボー！と連呼し、心持ちスタローンから遠ざかるようになった。

この訳はそのような小林訳のかっこよさはない。しかし、親しみやすさがあるのだ。小林訳におけるやたらと激しい口調もいくらか柔らかくなって、血気盛んな反骨高校生の心を捕らえるのには適さないが、なんといってもわかりやすい。
シンプルなランボー。小林氏を読みたいならあっち。ランボーを読みたいなら宇佐見氏の訳をお勧めします。

宇佐美先生に感謝をこめて、この翻訳のすばらしさを伝えたい。

２５年前の１０代に出会ったランボー訳詩は、何が書いてあるか全くわからない、難解な代物だった。
おかげで、私はランボーを敬遠して４０歳をすぎた。
先日『宗教とアウトサイダー』のランボーの章にひかれ、この宇佐美訳をめくってみた。
何とわかりやすく、まばゆい宝石箱のような詩集だったことか！私は胸打たれ、動揺し、ランボーに心臓をうちぬかれた！
「酔っぱらった船」の恍惚、「地獄の季節」の傲慢な美しさと奢れる才気、「イリュミナシオン」のすがすがしい幻覚と陶酔！

この訳詩と、１０代の頃出会っていたら！
私もランボーのように、放浪の旅に出ていただろうかーーー。
まだ、遅くはないと信じつつ、宇佐美先生に尊敬の念をこめて。

ランボーを読むなら、最初はやっぱり小林秀雄でしょう。
次に読むと楽しいのがこれ。
小林で感じて、次はこれで深く読む。
注が興味深く面白いです。たとえば、「地獄の季節」の最初にあるカッコが閉じられていないことについての注。目からうろこでした。
訳もやさしい日本語でとっても読みやすいですよ。小林を読んで、その日本語に苦しんだ人も今度は純粋にランボーを感じられると思います。
