路上観察学がいかにして始まったのか、よく分かると思います。トマソン現象も写真つきでけっこう紹介されています。丁寧で分かりやすい内容ですよ。路上観察学とはなんぞや、という方にもお薦めです。

京都面白ウオッチング、華の東海道５３次を読んで、興味を持っていた「路上観察」に学問的なものがあることを知り、購入しました。
馬鹿馬鹿しいことをここまでやって、学問にまで高めてしまったことに驚いてしまいます。

あまりの馬鹿馬鹿しさに、もしかしたら、「読者はなめられてるんではないか」と一瞬かんぐってしまいますが、読み進む内に、その面白さに「まあ、いいか、面白いし」と思ってしまいます。
路上観察に興味のある方は、是非、そのルーツから解き明かしたこの本をお読みください。路上観察に興味のある方には絶対お薦めの一冊です。

　森村誠一先生の推理小説「失われた街の伝説」という作品（「影の祭り」光文社文庫）の中にこの「路上観察学入門」が出てきます。トマソンという言葉が引用されています。都会、街の描写を鋭く刻む森村小説に出ていたことから、興味があり読みました。
　もともと街の風景に興味があったため、このような本があることが新鮮に感じられ、街を観察する指南書のような印象を持ちました。
