タイトルが「レター教室」と体裁はまるでハウツーもののようですが、実質は真っ当な「通俗小説」です。全編渡って５人登場人物の手紙だけで構成されているとういう珍しい形式が特徴的です。

手紙だけで構成されたという読み慣れない形式ですがコレが非常によろしい。手紙だけからしか登場人物を知ることができない故に、色々空想が出来る余白が多く、結果として毎回読後感が違ってくるからです。部分々々を深読みしてみたりと色んな楽しみ方が出来ます。三島由紀夫の小説、文章に対し、全体的に説明過多でくどくて鬱陶しい印象を持っている方もいますが、この「レター教室」はなんせ手紙だけなので、その点鬱陶しくないと思う。（尤も登場人物の一人「炎タケル」の手紙はくどくて鬱陶しいかも知れない。しかしそれはそれでいい余白があります。）

平易で読み易い文体やテンポ、カメレオンみたいな読後感、割に複雑な人間模様の妙味など、読みごたえも多いに有り。
三拍子揃っていて、これこそが、氏のベストワークです。と敢えて言い切っておきましょう。
三島由紀夫の通俗小説一般が持つ世界観は好き好きですが、このテの世界観に嫌悪感を覚えないのなら、絶対に読むべきです。大当たり。

　多少なりとも手紙を書く上での参考になるかも知れない…と思って読み始めたのですが、それとは別に、小説としての面白さで、愉しく読む事が出来ました。
　全編が手紙から成り立っているという凝った構成で、しかも設定が「普通の人が書いた手紙」ということなので、いわゆる小説家然とした文章ではなく、平易で読みやすかったです。その上、一編の話が一通の手紙でほぼ完結するというスタイルは、超短編小説集のようでもあり、電車の車中で読むのにストレスが無くて、とても良かったです。
　物語の最後の手紙のタイトルは、「作者から読者への手紙」、つまり著者の後書きになっているという洒落た趣向でありました。

三島由紀夫という人はやっぱりすごい人ですね。
感覚が新しいと思います。ユーモアって時代時代でうつりゆくものだと思うのですが、三島はあらゆる時代に受け入れられるユーモアを作り出すことができる人だと思います。話もかなりとっぴなのですが、そこがなぜか笑いを誘ってしまいます。登場人物の名前だけでもまず楽しめると思います。おすすめです。
