どうでもいい話からはじめるけど、橋本さんがホモって本当にホモなのか体制に反してのポーズなのか。そしてこの相談って本当は架空だってのは？いずれもどうでもよくないけど。

さて、この人生相談。題がそうだからそうなんだろうけど、本当にそうかなあ、これ？
まあ、人生相談なんだろうね。

母との関係に悩むＯＬに一声、学校について行けぬ青年に一喝と・・何が悩みすらもわからぬ人々を見抜き一刀両断。まさに作者自身も言うように、お狐様だけを切ってすてる陰陽師の行脚なのだ。

なんつーか、評価しにくいな、これ。ありていにいって、これ、人生相談じゃないな。
エンターテイメントだ。日本最上級の知性による恫喝のエンタテイメント。
好きか嫌いかっていうと……好きだ、間違いなく。この強さも賢さも共感はできんがため息がもの。中島らものように軽くもないし、美輪のような説教でもない。ずっしり重たいものを読みたい人間への橋本さんからの人生相談の形を取ったプレゼントだね。つか、橋本治というモンスターからの矢文ね。

まったく自分と関係ない悩みを読んでも……ああ、もう！　とにかくおもしろいんだよ！　この相談は！すすめたいけどすすめにくい本の典型ね。あーもったいない

短い手紙文から、「あなたはこういう人だ」と見抜き、切れ味のよく明晰な話を展開する。橋本治の人間像は他の著作も併せて読む中で茫漠とイメージが掴めるが、相談者の人間像については橋本の「見抜き」が本当に当たっているかどうかは正直判断つかない。

読んでいて、橋本の強靱な知性と、ちょっと過激な色彩のある正しいバランス感覚をびんびん感じる。せっかくの知性、こういう風に使わなくっちゃ、と思う。

一方でこの本を読んでいて座りの悪さを感じるのは、生き方、信念、自立につき私自身に曖昧さがある為だろう、いつの間にか、一刀両断される相談者の方に感情移入するからだ。「俺はまだまだだ」と思い知らされる。

この本での橋本はすべてを見抜く神様のようだ。なんでこんなにわかっちゃってるの？そして、そのことの危うさを橋本本人が感じた為にこの人生相談をやめたことが最後のあとがきらしきものを読めば判る。

この人の『愛の帆掛舟』(ISBN:4101054126)などの小説を読んでいるときも思ったのだけど、なんでこの人はこんなに人間のことがわかるのだろう。怖いくらい。人の考えがどんなルートをたどるかとか、どのへんを見ないふりをしてごまかすかとか、感情が揺れ動く原因となるものだとか、行動の裏にある心理とか、置かれている状況がどの程度精神を規定するかとか、なんでこんなにわかるんだ。 化け物じみている。

　橋本治を読むと自分の頭の回らなさを思い知らされるな。俺には見えていないこととか見落としていることとか都合が悪いから見ないふりをしているうちに本当に見えなくなってしまったこととかがいっぱいあって、だから理由も判らないまま悩んだり感情的になったりするのだろうなあ。

　明晰になりたい。頭を使おう。
