　小栗さんの漫画は面白いけど、語学を学ぶノウハウ本としては微妙。
　語学が苦手な人がまず学ぶなら、「外国語が上手な人」にその方法を聞くのが筋。
　まあ大抵そういう人はまじめだから「毎日たくさん勉強すること」なんて答えが返ってくるんだけれど、ちょっとあやしげな方法に手を出しすぎだと思います。通った英会話教室にしても、あそこまで感じの悪い講師はかなり稀、すぐやめればよかったのに…。まあ、ＮＯＶＡとかでもよく「質問して」がお約束ですからね。「初対面のオッサンにたいする興味などほぼない」というのが笑えました。
　私はダーリンが同じアメリカ人ですが、私のほうがトニーで英語を喋っているポジションです。最初は彼の英語もよく分からなかったのですが、毎日長いメールを交換したり、英語で日記をつけたり、資格試験の勉強をしてそれで学んだ単語を彼との会話に使ってみたりと、方法はかなり地道です。
　やはり、一部の例外を除いては国際結婚というのは「どちらか一方が語学をがんばると、どちらか一方はがんばらなくなる」のが筋かと思います。トニーに頼むなら、「一ヶ月くらい全部英語で話しかけて、私がつまっても英語で説明して！」くらいの気持ちでやらないと。小栗さんが英語が話せないのは「日常生活で必要ないからです」とダーリンは外国人で言っていたけれど、何でまた英語を始めようかと思ったという動機もこの本からはよく分かりませんでした。

「ダーリンは外国人」の小栗左多里さんが
さまざまな方法で英語を習得しようとじたばたするエッセイです。

厳しいスクールや、お料理しながらの軽いスクール、
本やラジオもいろいろ挑戦されています。

結果はまだまだのようで
（とはいえこの方、もともと英語の成績よいようですが）
やっぱり地道にやるしかない、という結論のようですが、
こんな方法もあるんだなあ、という提案にはなっていると思います。
エッセイとしてもかなり笑えて、
ちょーっとでも英語勉強しようかなあ、という気持ちになります。

内容が著者の失敗談を面白可笑しく紹介するというものなので、当然英語学習の指針にはなりません。
また、失敗例として反面教師になるかと言えば、各学習方法の善し悪しの評価は著者の”偏った”主観によるものであり、
ただの”好き嫌い”の範囲にとどまっています。よって、客観的な資料としても役に立ちません。
「ダーリン」もほとんど登場せず、彼の英語学習についてのアドバイスに期待されている方は、裏切られてしまうでしょう。
「ダーリン」が監修されていれば（したのかな？）、もっとましな内容になったと思われますが。
一方で、単なる読み物として考えた場合、本の大半が文章であり、ダーリンシリーズが好きだった方には重く感じると思います。
また、内容もダーリンの人柄に癒されたダーリンシリーズとは異なり、特定の英会話スクールをこき下ろすなど、
著者の毒の強さばかりが目立った内容となっています。
