本書は、すでにフォトリーディングや視点移動など速読のテクニックを身につけている人が、さらに効率的に読書から知識を吸収するためのものだろう。あくまでも、速読のテクニックは持っているが応用の仕方がわからない人のために、テクニックを使うときの思考法を教えるものです。本書自体には具体的な速読技術が書かれているわけではないので、本書を読んだだけで速読できるようになるわけではないと思う。
また、本書独自の意義は、本に付き合う時間は30分だけにしなさいと明言したくらい。他には、最初に本を読む目的を決める、早く読むことは目的ではなく手段である、読んだらアウトプットして知識を定着させるなど、ビジネス書等を読んでいる人にとっては常識的な内容。「読書では全体の２割を読んで内容の８割をつかむ」と主張する本書ですが、本書に関する書評ブログのレビューを見れば本書の内容の８割以上を把握できてしまうという皮肉な結果になっています。

速読のノウハウ本ですが、速く読むということよりも、いかに効率的に知識を吸収するかという視点を重視しているところが他の類似本と異なります。ノウハウそのものは特に目新しいものはありませんが、説明が分かりやすいので、この手の本を初めて読む方にはいいかもしれません。

一般的なイメージの速読ではなく、速く目的に辿りつくための読書術で略して速読、
そんなイメージの本である。
作者の考えは、速く読むこと自体が目的ではなく、速く知識を吸収することが目的であるそうだ。
ここから、読む必要がある部分と読む必要がない部分の識別方法が本題となっている。
これは、インターネットでは、ネットでの検索結果について、自然と誰しもやっている取捨選択の方法を
一冊の本の読書という行為に当てはめたイメージに近い。
作者はいわゆる速読にも精通したそうで、その結果、目の動きを訓練する速読よりも
まず先にやることがあるとの考えから、この本を書いたそうで、実践が裏付けした
考え方であると思うと、不要部分を読み飛ばすという考えも納得がいく。
