知らないうちに誰しも、自分の読書スタイルというようなものが確立していると思う。そのような中でふと立ち止まって、読み方の再点検をするのに最適な本です。具体的にいろいろな文章の読み方が出ていて、（例えば、新聞、統計、百科事典、年表、専門書など）それぞれの読む際の見方、考え方などを指南してあります。読書好きなビジネスマンが自分の読書スタイルの再点検に使うのに良いかもしれません。

読むということに対して意識が少ない。ただ漠然と数をこなしている。この本は解読と解釈をしっかり区別して、考えることを意識している。一番の問題は書くことを意識して読むことが減ってきていることである。気がつくと書けない状態に陥っている。書けるまでには試運転が必要である。半年後もう一度読んで自分の点検をしてみたい。

本書では、「図・表」「統計」「新聞」「専門書」「百科事典」「年表」などの様々な情報リソースとの向き合い方が具体的に示され、学ばされる点が多かった。

本書の基本構成は次のようになっている。各情報リソースごとに章が設けられ、章内で取り上げた情報リソースの特徴と読むときのポイント、読み方のコンセプトが順を追って解説されている。各章の巻末についた、様々な分野で活躍する方々が執筆したコラムも読み応えがあり、著者の幅広い交友関係を感じさせる。

読書からより多くの知的栄養を吸収したい。自分の意見を組み立てたい。もしくは、今の自分の読書の仕方は何か間違ってる。そのようなことを感じたら、ひとまずこの本をチェックしてみるといいだろう。

ただ、随所にあらわれる「できるこつは・・である。」という表現にはいささかうんざりさせられる。さらに、あれこれ論じてきたあとに、「いずれにせよ・・・である。」と話しを結ぶことがあまりにも多すぎる。筆者の一人よがりな面が垣間見え、あまり気分のいいものではないだろう。
