盛りだくさんの内容だが、多数の執筆者が書いた寄せ集めのため不統一や間違いが見られる。東京シティガイド検定公式テキストとしては非常に物足りない。
江戸三大祭について100、106、108ページで触れているが、神田・山王の天下祭の他一つを浅草三社祭と断定したのはどういう事か。深川冨岡八幡宮の大祭というのが常識ではないか。106ページではそう書いている。
また、147ページのクイズで首都高速道路の完成を1963年としたのも明らかな間違い。当時は１号線部分開通のみで、建設はその後も進み現在も延伸工事中だ。他にもエラーは多いがきりがないので挙げない。
東京現代史の部分に知事の実績？や似顔絵が出てくるのもスポンサーに気を遣っているようで不明朗。むしろ上下水道の成果のようなプラス面、自然災害やホームレスによる公共地の占拠のようなマイナス面にも視野を広げるべきだ。

東京について、自分では知っているつもりが、実はそれほど分かってないことが多いようです。東京のベースは、言うまでもなく江戸ですが、このあたりから興味の赴くままにページをめくっていくと、自分でも驚くような江戸の新しい側面が見えてきます。普段、何気なく歩いている街が違って見えてきます。街がまさに面白くなってくる、お薦めの1冊です。

テキストなのに,面白い。そうですよね。自分の町のことを語れない、文化のことを知らないで、英会話をならっても真の国際人にはなれないと思います。
海外赴任経験のある知人がよく言っていました。その友人が進めてくれたのが東京シティガイド検定。ご当地検定がはやりとのこと。京都のことは知っていたけど、元祖が東京シティガイド検定と聞きました。やはり東京ですね。政治や経済,産業まで入っていてビジネスマンにもお勧めです。中をぱらぱらみてみました。オールカラーで知ってそうで良く分かっていないことがあります。
