図書館で見た初版の「写真よさようなら」と比較すると、
復刊版のほうがサイズは一回り大きく、中平卓馬氏との対談が含まれていません。
復刊にあたって、もう少し大きく、テキストは無しで、というのは
森山氏からのリクエストがあったということです。
（ちなみに初版本の対談は単行本「過去はいつも新しく、未来はつねに懐かしい」で
読むことができます。）
また、復刊版のほうがコントラストが強く、黒も濃いです。
初版本はもっとグレーっぽくて、復刊版のほうが荒っぽさを感じます。
どちらもそれぞれ魅力的ですが、カバーデザインは初版本の方が好きです。

森山氏が「写真を写真の涯まで連れて行って解体したい」、という思いに駆られて
創ったというこの本からは得体の知れないエネルギーを感じます。
一体これは写真なのか絵なのか。
一体写真って何なのかという問いを投げかけてきますし、
もっと写真で冒険できるんだと写真を撮る私を挑発してきます。
このような写真集が出版され、そしてまた復刊までされることはすばらしいことです。

この写真集の後、文字通り写真とさようならしてしまった森山氏は
長い間写真から遠ざかってしまう・・・
その暗がりの時期を経て、ある日撮影した光の中に咲く花の写真から
再び復活したというストーリーは私を森山氏に惹きつけて止みません。
だから是非、その復活作である「光と影」もいつか復刊して欲しいと願っています。

森山大道の伝説の写真集「写真よさようなら」の復刻。
現在「写真よさようなら」のプリント、ネガが存在しないため、
この本は1972年の初版本を使い制作されたとのこと。
また残念なことに中平卓馬との対談もカットされている・・・。
が、原本はプレミアが付き破格の値がついているので、
今まで見れなかった人には待望の本であり、森山大道のすごさが伝わってくる本です。

4.0 out of 5 stars ああ。買っちゃった・・・世界を「超えて」, 2008/5/12
40歳ちょっと前から写真集を集めたり、写真を撮るようになったのは「森山大道」という写真家を知ったからだ。

コンパクトカメラで街を流しながら、撮りまくる。
現像しプリントする際に思いっきり森山スタイルにする。

森山の「新宿」から入った私はどんどん森山の歴史を遡り森山が10年間暗い途をたどる前の最後の写真集を買ってしまった。
それは、白黒写真の光の中に粒子の中に写されたと思われるものが溶け込んでいる世界だった。
森山は一度行き着くところまで行ってしまった。
どこへ行き着いたかは分からないが、森山の最近の写真集を観ると我々が生きている世界に戻ってきている気がする。

それは「死」の世界でなく「超えた」世界である。
