色々と参考になります。宝石を買うにあたって、どのような色調がベストなのかを知るのは基本だと思いますが、なかなか参考になる本がなく、この本に出会えてうれしいです。特定の宝石について知識を深めるには内容がやや浅めであるのと、値段が高いのが欠点。

全143ページ。日本人で初めてGIA（アメリカ宝石学会）やG.G.（宝石鑑別士）の資格を取得した諏訪恭一さんによる著書。
良い石（宝石）を手に入れたい人、宝石の品質について勉強したい人などにおすすめです。
一般向けではなく、どちらかといえば専門書的な位置づけにあると思います。

そのせいかどうか分かりませんが、値段が高いので星を4つにさせて頂きました。

【第１章】
次の24の宝石が紹介されています。

アクアマリン、アメジスト、アレキサンドライト、ラウンドブリリアント・ダイヤモンド、メレーダイヤモンド、コロンビア産エメラルド、ザンビア産エメラルド、サンダワナ産エメラルド、ジェダイト（ヒスイ）、ラピス・ラズリ、ムーンストーン、ライト・オパール、ブラック・オパール、ペリドット、モゴック産ルビー、タイ産ルビー、ロードライト、スリランカ産サファイヤ、カシミール産サファイヤ、ピンク・トパーズ、タンザナイト、グリーン・トルマリン、パライバ・トルマリン、トルコ石。
各宝石ごとに産地の特色、品質の見分け方、選び方、クオリティスケール（ビューティグレードやトーンの表）などの解説が掲載されています。

特にクオリティスケールは各グレードの宝石が写真つきで表になっているので、とても分かりやすく良い宝石を手に入れる参考になると思います。

【第２章】
宝石を掘る、磨く、作る、売る、買う、つける、受け継ぐ、仲介するなど、宝石に関する知識的なことが掲載されています。
その他にも宝石の用語解説などもあります。

お値段も高く、どちらかというとプロのための本だと思いますが、消費者が目を肥やすためにもおすすめです。宝石自体が高価なため、買って失敗だった、ということは避けたいもの。お店にいって目を肥やすのが一番ですが、お店にもいろいろ比較するほどの数がなかったり、ついセールストークに乗せられてしまったりという危険がつきもの。この本ならじっくり比較し、自分の好きなものをイメージすることができます。授業料として考えれば高くはないのではないでしょうか。
